How do you get people to read your blog?

So you have pimped up your blog. You have put lots of effort to write entries that you believe would be interesting to read by your readers. You have made you blog as user friendly as you possibly can so that users would know how to move around. In the end, only a handful came to visit. Out of that, probably one, if you are lucky, care to comment. If you have a blog or blogs out there, I hope you can share how you promote your blog and get people to come over to read your stuffs. Is there any easy way to achieve that? Or is there a proven way to do so? Hope to hear from you soon!

It's frustrating to offer your best work and feel that no one's interested :( However, try not to use comments as your only judge of readership. A lot of times, you can have regular readers who will never once leave a comment simply because they either don't feel confident in their writing or they don't want to leave their name/screen name (this can be helped some if your blog allows comments to be anonymous). Now, having said that... lol. As someone else mentioned, there are link exchanges / traffic exchanges. You can promote your blog regularly by creating an email signature that contains your URL. You can sign up and participate in forums related to blogging. Use any one of the available "ping" sites out there to ping your blog each time it's updated (such as ping-o-matic). Also, you might want to check out a site like BlogSoldiers ... I've picked up several new, regular readers through that one. Just a few ideas off the top of my head... best of luck! :)

I think you are right about people that came and did not leave any comment. I guess I should stop getting obsessed with comments ya :) So far the best blog exchange that I have used is BlogMad. Lot's of new visitors came from there but I wouldn't know whether they really read anything or not :) Cheers!

Initially, it was quite hard getting more people to my blogs as they were quite new then. But, as time went by, more and more links added, then the traffic flew in. It takes time, lots of time and patience. After posting each post, I will ping my new posts in pinger sites. This way, new visitors will come. And, I'll also leave comments in other people's blogs regularly. That way, they'll come back to your blog too. Unfortunately, what you said is true. Lots of people come but maybe only 1/10 of them care to leave a comment. But, like I said, it takes time. Good luck!

You are right! It is not easy to get people to come over and have them read what we wrote. There are millions of blog out there and there are way to many things to read ya... However, it is interesting to see one or two people would actually subscribe to your blog. Blogging is really something!

Visit http://mommyspace.blogspot.com and read the article about Link & Blog. This is a new community of bloggers who participate in challenges aimed at increasing their visibility within the search engines. Challenges result in reciprical linking within posts, which is by far better than exchanging links in a side bar. Hope you'll consider joining. It's free and fun!

Okay, I'm feelin' like an idiot here. First, I'm not sure that I nkow what a "blog" is. Is this a blog? If so, then I can say that I will comment if what I have to say has not already been said and I will stop to look based on the title. If the title doesn't catch me, then it doesn't matter what the thing says. Now, if this is not a blog, then I have no idea and you may just chalk me up as a moron who shouldn't have commented in the first place! At any rate -- good luck!

Don't worry about that. At one time, I didn't know that too. A blog is actually a weblog and what we have here is a more of a forum rather than a blog. I have a sample blog that you can look at. go to http://lidi.efx2.com.

Another way to promote your blog that no one has touched on here is by writing articles. Since you are already writing, this shouldn´t be too hard! What you do is write an informative article that relates to your blog subject and submit it to article directories like www.EzineArticles.com. These directories let you add a resource box where you put your bio and one or two links (to your blog, website, whatever you want). Then webmasters and ezine owners who want free content go to the directory and pick up your articles, placing them on their site or in their ezine along with your information. I have done this in the past with fairly good results. The more articles you submit, the more traffic you will pick up.

Your blog is very cute! I really like it and just by starting this discussion you've no doubt introduced it to a new group of people! Here are a few things that work for increasing exposure... join message boards that will allow you to list your blog url in the signature line and post often, visit other blogs and leave comments, join blog rolls, promote your site with friends and family and ask them to share your link. These all will work in time. :)

I tell everyone I meet about my blog. I e-mail friends and relatives to view my blog. I have had over 1700 people view my blog at http://360.yahoo.com/nrosado41 since Dec. 23, 2006. I try to write about things that appeal to a lot of people and it seems to be working.

I guess the word of mouth is still a powerful promotion tool. That is something that I have not tried. Thanks for the suggestion!

I place my blog link in my friendster and myLot profiles and in my profile in the other forums I'm actively participating in. Also, most of my friends know about it. I don't really care that only a handful care to visit or comment because my first priority is to post what I'm thinking and have like an online journal. It's more troublesome to keep a written journal for me. Gathering more online friends from my blogs are a plus in this whole blogging experience XD

I've been using Squidoo with pretty decent results. It's free. Completely and totally. And fun. Go figure. You can find out more about it here: http://www.squidoo.com Basically you make "lenses" about a topic you like. You can make a commission if you sell something (like from Amazon or Ebay) from your lens, but you definitely won't get rich that way. However, you can get some decent traffic if you make decent lenses. :)
