I listed Jon Bon Jovi and Oprah as favorite people in my interest section because of their charitable work. Oprah donated $10 million dollars to the victims of Hurrican Katrina and created a network so that her viewer's could help, too. She also built a school for girl's in Africa. I also want to congratulate Jon Boni Jovi and the other members of the band for their contributions. They went on Oprah and donated $1 million to the Katrina effort. They also sponsored a house through "Habitat for Humanity". Jon also donated uniforms and school supplies including notbook computers to children in an orphanage. Wille Nelson helped with the plight of the American farmer by sponsoring shows and events to raise money and awareness to this cause. Some people say the only do it for the publicity. I don't care if that is the only reason why they do it, as long as they keep on doing it and get their friends to do it, too. I also want thank stars like Leonardo DeCaprio (I know I didn't spell that right, sorry Leo) who promote ideas like alternative energy and give their time to enlighten the public about these issues.

I don't think Bon Jovi made their contributions for the publicity, but I think that them getting good publicity might help other rich celebrities to think about helping others.

I am a big huge fan of Bon Jovi and have been since I was about 16 years old. I am also a big fan of Oprah. There are alot of celebrities out there who give both their time and money to good causes. Sometimes it's for fame and sometimes it's because they are really good people and they want to give back by doing good things. I highly respect both Jon Bon Jovi, and his band, and Oprah. Mainly because with them what you see is what you get. They are all kind and caring people with a huge heart to want to help. I am just amazed at how much they have done for various organizations. They do it only so that the others can have a better life. It is good to know that there are people like them that are out there actually making a difference in peoples lifes'. I hope that they continue to make a difference.

Some people don't to that for the money, that's for sure. As Jon said several times, when you are a celebrity you realize you have the power to talk to millions of people. So from being merely and entertainer (of course with a message to spread, but always an entertainer), he decided to actually talk about global social issues to raise awareness. His favorite thing to say is you don't have to be a billionaire to actually do something for the community, you can help with little or no money at all, if you're willing and try to. I think politicians are not even that trusted anymore, or could always have an agenda or something, so of course the impact of a celebrity is stronger. Good job!

I agree with you and so does Al Gore! He was able to move his Global Warming Awareness Campaign into the headlines with the help of Hollywood celebraties.

You're right... This Live Earth concerts (and the campaign to raise awareness and knowledge that will follow them) sound like they're going to cause a revolution! I hope everything will turn out to be good.

I Love what Oprah has done, and represents. There needs to be many others follow in her footsteps and not be afraid to Step up in case of Tragedies. Anyone who says people like her do it for the publicity, I feel do not see the real picture and where she has come from. And when people like Willie Nelson help out, it is because they can relate with these people and where they are coming from, which unfortunately, many others tend to forget when they hit it big.

Well with power comes responsibility and as Celebrities have become the new 'gods'in contemporary life their influence is also huge on the heard instinct of the large portion of the population. So thank goodness then that a minirity of them are bahaving somewhat responsibly and giving back something to the community as the world has blessed them with more than they can handle. I am gload you highlighted some positive personalites which brings a little light and hope to the industry at large.

thats good to know that atleast some celebrities are doing for the good of the community and helping the needy, and i think if all celebrities do some charity work it would make a big difference.
