Why do people suffer depression?

March 8, 2007 7:23am CST
Why do people suffer depression? Is it good or bad? Who can tell? Why does it happen to us? Most of these questions can be answered only by you. Depression is like a coin because it's double sided. On the other side, depression can make you realize what do you want in order to move on or ease the pain while keepin yourself usually isolated with other people. On the other half, depression can literally affect our little fragile minds. It can destroy our personality and make it to a psychotic one which obviously can lead us into total oblivion.

This is a question that keeps the medical world busy. Some reasons that have been recognized are stress, hormone balance and diet. There is also genetic depression, which is inherited and the most difficult to treat. It is in the genes just as the rest of your body is programmed. Living a lonely or sedentary life can lead to depression. Humans do better when they have balance in their lives. Exercise is vital to depression, as it stimulates the hormones that keep us "up". Diet is another factor. It has been proven that a person who does not balance their diet, but relies on sugar and high fat food may be more prone to depression. Keeping a healthy balance in our lives is one of the most important things we can do to combat depression.

Depression is usually a chemical unbalance. An imbalance in Seratonin levels usually causes depression. The longer you fail to correct the problem, the worse it gets. Is is a good thing? No. An imbalance in your system can't ever really be considered a "good" thing.

On a recent Oprah show it was said that depression was most times inward anger, maybe that is why it is best to get rid of all anger....

As a matter of fact,I think that external environment cause depression in the most time. However, whether it is good or not,it's entirely a matter of preference. Some people can confront depression bravely and optimisticly and they turn resistance to motive. But if someone who suffers a setback is unable to recover from then on,he/she will be hurt severely not only in mentally, but also in physically.Accordingly,it depends on one's attitude to a certain extent.

When your body is improperly nourished and you feed your mind on negative ways of thinking, over time, your body is affected adversely. For some people, emotional discord is the first kind of reaction their bodies produce. Other people suffer from more physical symptoms. Genetics plays a part in what kind of reaction your body will have when it's exposed to an unhealthy environment - internally and externally.

you asked two important questions....my response to why people suffer from depression, I believe is because of wholesome food, the right mixture of vitamins and minerals they are missing. Why do some people make it harder to deal with? Because they have not expanded their horizons thru education, made a plan, considered that things could be better for them if they tried, or contacted people ot know what others do and are thinking, had a hobby, had a quiet mind, etc. Maybe you mean why are some people bullies. I think it was thier upbringing, their childhood, no or little direction or discipline from parents, and so they suffer from low self esteem. They haven't done a lot in life, don't feel good about themselves, or have no plan so they take it out on people who do, i.e. they are just bored.

I think depression happens to someone who is not contented with what he/she really wants to happen...if he/she doesnt get what he/she wants...it can be simple but it's pretty tough
