brother KR850 ribber

brother KH930 and brother KR850 will not connect together. top and bottom carriages will not hookup. do i need different hardware for ribber to hookup. i have followed the manual and it does not work and if i try to run main bed carriage with ribber attachment, the needles catch on the attachment
