Bible is simply a collection of stories and legends. Others veiw it solely as a historical document. What do you think the Bible really is? I personally believe it is the inspired word of God given to man as instructions to live by. Even though their was a lot of books written back in those days; God chose these 66 books to be put together for us to learn and live by.

I will not get into what I truely think but I can tell you that Noone can truely be for certain if it is real, especially since they now say that if you think that God can talk to you then your nuts. The only way to actually tell is when that comes, wouldn't it bite though to find out it was all a lie or to believe that it was a lie and then find out that it was true?

The Bible began as oral literature (stories passed on by word of mouth) thousands of years ago. As time passed, people wrote down various parts of the book. For many centuries, the Bible existed only in handwritten manuscript form. During the Middle Ages, artists decorated many Biblical manuscripts with beautiful designs and pictures. In the mid-1400's, the Bible became one of the first books in Europe to be printed from movable type. It was first printed in the workshop of Johannes Gutenberg in Mainz, Germany. The Gutenberg Bible remains one of the most famous and valuable books ever printed. Although the Bible is often thought of as a single book, it actually consists of many sections called books. Jews and various Christian groups have chosen for their particular Bible only the books they believe to have been inspired by God. The Hebrew Bible has 24 books; the Protestant Bible, 66; and the Roman Catholic, 73. In fact, the name Bible comes from a Greek word that means books. The books officially accepted by any group as part of its Bible are called the canon.

I believe the Bible is historically true. Archaeology and ancient historians verify that. But it is also a work of literature, filled with allegory and metaphor. I believe it is the inspired word of God and a pattern for our lives.

The Bible is not a history book, but where it details history, it is totally correct. Recorded as things happened, it agrees with secular historians. In fact things in the Bible thought to be incorrect have been found to be true by more recent archaeological findings. The Bible is not a science book, but where it details scientific facts, it is totally correct. The Bible contains much information about stars, tides, winds, lightning, springs, snow and many other things which were recorded many hundreds of years before scientists "discovered" the truths. The Bible is the infallible Word of God, written by men as God inspired them to write. It is totally accurate. While people accuse the Bible of having contradictions and of being myths, NOTHING recorded in the Bible has been proven to be wrong.

All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit. - Thomas Paine, One of the Founding Fathers of the USA. Quoted from "Age of Reason". Read the entire book online at http://www.ushistory.org/paine/reason/index.htm

May good responses here. See people can get along and share their ideas and beliefs without fighting. Thank you everyone for sharing with us. Yes I believe the Bible is the word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit ( which He is the third head of God, The Father, The Son Jesus, The Holy Spirit). And I do do believe God is the one that chose this 66 books for our instructions to live by. Because there were alot of books writtenback in that time. Ask yourself why these 66 books? Why not all the books?

I believe as you, the bible was written by men chosen by God and the writings were inspired by God. The books of the bible can not be compared to any other writings of all times. The bible is there for everyone who wishes to know God's Word giving us everything we need, knowledge, inspiration, guidance, encouragement, peace - the list goes on.

I always believe in the power of reading the Holy Bible. Non-believers may always questioned the validity and authenticity of every words written in the Bible. And I respect them for that. But reading the Bible has given me a wide understanding of what is the real purpose of my life here. I can't imagine not reading the Bible. What you're saying here are true, mjsdls. God had purposely sent this man to give us a true accounting of what and where it all began. God bless you. :)

I simply believe that bible is a book of life, Life with God. We had the bible to study the good words and works of God and to witness his love for all mankind. So i Believe that we should have a Bible and study and read it by heart. Its like living with God, there is no life when there is no GOd.

I myself am an atheist. I could respond to any of your arguments and prove them wrong, most of the time using your own weapon (the Bible) to do so. If you would care to partake in debate, you can visit me on my debate forum, at http://debate.fgsfds.org

i believe the Bible to be the Word of God... the writers are the apostles who are inspired and illuminated by the Holy Spirit to write... so, i believe that whatever is written in the Bible is very true and we should follow it as a guidance of our lives...

I believe it is a little of both. It is full of Gods words written by man. There are some strories that are just that, sotries that happened to man. And of course there is plenty of history in the Bible.

god did not choose the 66 books, the people at the time of the printing choose those books and they had a much wider selection to choose from but they decided these were the ones to use. The torah or the old testament is actually older and is believed to be handed down by divine inspiration.

I believe this too! The bible is written and inspired by God. But man of course wrote it being inspired by the Holy Spirit as to what to say. The bible was written to guide those who believe and to tell the history of the world. After all HISTORY is really "his"story and its supposed to be Gods story (I think I wrote that right! *L*) :))

The Bible for me, though it is said that it is the word of God, for me, in my own opinion, it is just a book written by different historians and put together. I can't really say that it contains the word of God because nobody knows where the Bible originated. From what I know, the records of the writing has been kept by the catholic church and some of them even got lost. anyway, it's just my opinion, don't get me wrong on this.

I also believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God! I don't know what I would do without mine. It is, very much so, our instructions for how we should live our lives. Because of Him, Sandy PTL!
