Does an actor determine if you will watch a movie or not?

I feel this hits home with me because every movie that has James Stewart, Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, John Candy, and Michael J. Fox I tend to watch and like. Not to mention Katherine Hepburn, Reese Witherspoon and Sandra Bullock. There are a lot of good actors out there, so what actor determines what movie you watch or like?

When I see that Anthony Hopkins is in a film then I go out of my way to see it. I think he's wonderful! Conversely, if I see a film has Keira Knightley in it then I'll avoid it!

I agree about avoiding movies of dislike, like Michael Moore films, not a big fan of Alec Baldwin or Susan Sarandon. But don't avoid Knightley movies all together because Johnny Depp has done outstanding performance in the Pirate movies worth noting and watching..

Pirates of the Carribean is the exception to the rule! ;)

I would maybe watch a movie even if I didn't know any of the actors, but if would watch it for sure if I did know some of the actors, so yea it really does matter to me.

If you don't look for an actor in the movie do you look for a certain genre or go with your feelings. For example, genre do you look for comedy, action, romance, and so forth. Or do you base it on how you feel or did the trailer entice you to see the movie?

Johnny Depp - Pirates of the Caribbean
I have to admit that I do love seeing movies with Johnny Depp. He is such a talented actor and so versatile.

I agree Depp is a good actor, but he gets snubbed for Oscar awards in my opinion. For example for Edward Scissor Hands and the Pirates...

Gosh no, i hardly no any actors names. If i do watch a film i tend to go "oh thats whats his face from that other film.. cool" and then continue watching the film. I watch a film based on its story line not by who is in it.

What type of story lines do you look for? Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl at the end. Maybe a historical feeling of a storyline. Or do you look for those based on a true story or inspired by a true story film? I am an avid movie watcher who really wanted to be a film critic, so these type of questions and answers are interesting to me.
