Keeping secrets from a loved one!

A friend of mine has been married for a little over a year now and she has been smoking behind her husband's back. She had that laser surgery done to help her quit but she has secretly started again. She usually uses me as an excuse to go outside and she lights up. Afterwards she pops a piece of gum or a mint in and her husband has no clue. Is it normal to keep such big secrets from your loved ones?? Do any of you have secrets that you have kept??

I have not kept any secrets from my better half so I can't really answer this one with no experience.I also would not put a friend in such a position.To me,the most important aspect of any relationship is communication.This leads to trust(or mistrust) and honesty.
