We're all taught to believe that democracy is the best form of government. But is it? What's your proof?

I think the best proof is that a person can criticize the government and the president without fear of being arrested, jailed, re-educated, and executed for voicing their opinions. That is all the proof you need.

I believe Aristotle said that the good thing, possibly the only good thing, about democracy is that it leaves its citizens alone. Yet a part of democracy seems to be this 'middling' effect, where art and education seems to be geared down to the 'lowest common denominator'. The democratic people do not vote for the best, or the most talented, nor do they create the best laws when they get into office.

With the right leader, a Dictatorship would be the best form of Government. Unfortunately, our society breeds the "Power Corrupts" mantra and therefore, dictatorships fail miserably.

I say it depends upon the leader of the country. Democracy maybe the best form of government but when the leaders the people choose for their country cannot seem to do their job best. It may lead to more tumultous occassions.

If we could have democracy and eliminate politicians then we would be onto a good thing.
