Why are so many girls obsessed with horses?

It seems like every girl I have met between eight and twelve lives and breathes for these things. My cousins are completely demented and so are their friends. They own horses, take lessons, go hunting, ride them all the time. I like horses, they're ok, but it seems a little strange they way they are so popular with a certain age group!

Ya know, girls are not powerful people. Boys are stronger & bigger most of the time, adults are, well adults. But a horse, a BIG POWERFUL horse can be under the girl's control. It will look to them like they walk on air, it will come for treats and you can be BIG & POWERFUL when you are on top of this beast. You control him, you tell it what to do and it obeys, if not loves you for it. What girl doesn't fantize about a man like that (well, me, but I'm weird.)
And, there is something about certain gaits... Well, lets just say, it gives you an idea of what is to come....

The gait thing never occured to me. I thought it was just that they were 'noble beasts'!

That's a good question. I lved them when I was little, too, but was never aound them much other than to go trail riding. My god daughter is also doing the lessons for stable mucking thing and she hasn't outgrown it yet. I think it is a bit of an age thing with many girls.

I love horses, but not THAT much! I agree with you in that perspective. I am not OBSESSED with horses, but I do like to ride them. I don't like to go hunting, but someday I would like to take riding lessons.

Being obsessed with horses seems to be a stage or phase most girls go through. There are three little girls I have gotten to know quite welll through their art classes and all they ever want to draw is horses. It seems to be a huge interest for them, but I am sure it won't be long before the new obsession will be boys!
