There's a new 'Most Dangerous Place to Live in America'

Philadelphia, PA logged their 79th murder yesterday, giving them the dubious title of the 'Most Dangerous Place to Live in America'. I noticed in the last few weeks that there has been more negative news stories out of Philadelphia than Camden lately. Currently, there have been 4 more murders than New York City which has considerably more residents. There are so many problems with this historical city. My initial thought is that the gun law is entirely too lax--I could go across the bridge and receive a permit for a handgun in about 24 hours--it takes about a week here in New Jersey. Would anyone else like to chime in with their thoughts?

That's terrible--what sorts of crimes are committed there? It seems that where there's little to no hope, crimes are more violent than usual. I'm fortunate to live in a wonderful town (with a river inbetween!) in NJ.

I don't think it really has to do with the fire amrs law. Bad people would get the regardless, and then the good ones would not have anything to protect themselves with. I think it just happens that there are a lot of unstable people there right now. It is sad that such a historical city is now known for it's murder rate and not so for it's history.
