So yet another one bites the dust! When I first joined Mylot I found myself with only a few friends requests. As the number of my posts grew, so did the requests and ultimately the friends list. Then I had to delete 2 people because they decided to send me private messages asking me to click their referral links to other sites. I declined to do so and deleted both of them. The very next day I had a friend request, I checked it out, only to find it was one of the friends I'd deleted the day before! The bloody cheek! Tonight, I just had a private message, sure enough when I clicked on it, it was a request for me to click their referral link in order to make an extraordinary amount of money. That request went into the trash - along with the friend. I wouldn't have minded nearly so much if any of these friends had actually participated in any of my few discussions. But they hadn't. Not one of the three of them has ever responded to any of my discussions and all their posts were about making more money. Is it just me, or does this annoy others as well??

I think that it annoys quite a lot of people. I know that it does me. If you want to be my friend don't spam me. Maybe send me an email asking something and then ask if I would mind looking at something. I might be a little more receptive than "you" just sending me something that I haven't given you any reason that I would be interested in. I should have deleted those people also, but I didn't, however I don't receive their new discussions through my email and since I rarely go through the discussion my friends have started link I most likely won't answer their posts. If they would like to delete me then fine, I have no problem. I also think the reason that I find it rude to do this is it seems that most of these people don't even know if the site is legitimate they just want the referrals. That's the sad part of it all. Just my 2 cents worth! :)

I totally agree with you. I delete them just because I don't want to continue to be spammed by these people. I think you hit the nail right on the head too when you say that most of these people don't even know if the sites they're promoting are legitimate or not. I find it sad to see what some people will do nowadays in a quest for money without having to get off their butts and get a job.

It's not just you :-). I've had a couple that have requested me as a friend, then within minutes of me hitting approve I received an email telling me to join this site and go here to earn millions etc. I'm pretty easy going when it comes to who I accept but those people who send me referral links (particularly if I've never interacted with them before) without my consent get removed from my list pretty quickly.

Thank God it's not just me LOL. I'm a pretty easygoing person, but when I receive messages like this and I don't ever recall seeing these people before, it bugs the heck out of me.

I think it is rude and wondered why people who don't talk to me want to help me make cash. I posted why do friends do this yesterday or the day before as I really couldn't decide what I was meant to do about it, in the end I just deleted the person, they are not my friend and are only tryng to get the referals.

Yeah I just delete them these days without thinking twice about it. If you're not going to help me by actually being a friend and participating in my discussions, then why shoul I help you by being a referral is how I look at it. I know some people say they feel guilty about deleting friends. Don't. They're more trouble than they're worth if you leave tm on your list.

I've had a few of these individuals also. Then they kept sending friends requests. Now I leave the request sitting not denying it. LOL. One's been in request for 3 weeks. HAHAHA. That's how I've taken care of this at my end. Good luck with the friends. LOL. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

LOL, I LOVE that idea of keeping them sitting there! I never thought of that. Mind you, I'd end up writing their names down so I didn't forget who's who when it comes to accepting lol. My memory isn't what it used to be thats for sure.

Whenever I get a friend request I go to their profile to see waht discussions they started, what they have responded to, how many best responses they have, and what website they have listed on their profile. This helps me decide if I want to even deal with them. If I find the majority of thier discussions and comments are about making money online then I will not accept them. I guess I am just a little picky because I don't want to keep getting spammed with make money sites. I have one pending request right now and this person has a 9 listed next to their name but they have absolutely no posts whatsoever. no discussions started, no discussions responded to, no best responses, but there is a link to a money making site on their profile and they have hundreds of friends. I have no clue why there is a 9 and it looks like to me that they are just requesting friends and I am guessing then emailing them to join their site. this is actually the first one that I am going to deny, and I feel bad about it, but I don't want to join nay money making sites.

I actually do the same thing as you do now when it comes to checking out people's profiles before accepting them or not. I think this person is one I accepted back when I first joined - still wet behind the ears and all that LOL. I've been here 4 weeks and this person hadn't responded to any of my discussions or anything so I suppose it's really no great loss lol

I got sick of the whole "friend" thing and deleted all of mine. Now I deny every request because avoiding the spammers means that I would have to look at every profile and see what they've been doing. Unless you actually know the people who want to be your friend, why bother?

When you look at the percentages of jerks to friends, you will be pleasantly surprised. I do delete the ones who do nothing but spam. It does not take much to do so.

To a certain extent I agree with you, but I do like having my friends here. I've made some good ones and we all look out for each other. Checking their profiles really only takes a couple of minutes, and more often than not, their discussions titles tell you what you need to know. I find that making friends on Mylot is, on the whole, a good experience. There's just a few eejits who like to try and ruin it for everyone else.

Yes there are a lot of them about on here at the Moment, I am very careful now and I always check out the Profile as it tells me a lot. And yes they do have the Cheek to request again after you have deleted them, lol. I just ignore them. I had one requesting 5 times the other day and then they gave up lol.

Wow 5 times seems a little bit like overkill to me lol. I too check their profiles now before adding them. If they only have a couple of posts to their name, to be honest, I'd rather not add them till they have more so I can check out their profiles again.

You aren't the only one thats for sure..I find it extremely annoying too. There is one persistent user here who sends me a request every other day and I reject it! Grandpa Bob (webeishere) had warned us that this user moody8210 adds you to his list only to send you a whole load of messages with referrals links. Luckily I had read Bob's discussion so I knew to reject that user from the very beginning. I had another friend send me links, but it was once so I just deleted the message and let it go. I hate it when these so called friends spam...not appreciated at all!

I haven't had this happen yet but it would annoy me if it did and I'd do exactly what you did...Zap em! I try not to okay friends who have too many friends (over a couple hundred) because I think they are probably going to start stuff like this. I know they can't possibly being giving any support to that many friends and they are often people I haven't even seen in a discussion.

Yeah I agree. I'd never seen this guy before and I certainly don't recall adding him to my list so it had to have been back when I first joined. I love that sentiment of Zap 'Em! LOL.

That's not just you. I've had the same thing happen and deleted a few people too. It's very annoying because I'm here to have discussions not to be sold stuff. I don't mind when people give ideas for maneymaking links but that's enough. If they keep bugging me about it it p(&^**es me off.

I agree with you completely. it's about time some of these people learned the rules of etiquette of this place. Heck, I'm not talking about the stiff upper lip or walking ramrod straight. All I want is a little bit of courtesy!

Yes,I too had a few of them via pms and they haven't participated in my discussions ,but I have replied to their discussions coz whenever someone sends a friend request,I reply to their discussions. So far I have got 2 , but I read those notifications from my inbox itself .So,I never logged in to check them.Probably that's why I was less worried. I haven't deleted any ,but if it gets overwhelming ,then I would have no choice left but to let them know my opinion.

I just hate that they have the cheek to request to be friends, and then make it obvious that they don't really WANT to be friends, but they just want referrals. It seems some people lose sight of whats really important over the internet these days.

Yeah I'm sure others have complained about this at some point. I've only been with MyLot for 4 weeks so I'm still a relative newbie myself. I just wish some members showed a little bit of respect and courtesy for others from time to time.

You are right, this is so annoying. I also had some this kind of friends who just know how to spam, they will never make a respond only will send you private messeg LOL. I have deleted some people from my friend list because of this reason only. Also there are lots of people who even don't have one post but send a friend request. May be their purpose is to get referral be sending private message. I never accept those people with 0 post.

Yeah if I get a friend request and the person only has a few responses or discussions, I usually deny them till they've got more under their belt and I can make a better judgement of whether or not we have any shared interests. Sad but with the way Mylot is going right now with Spammers, cheaters and god knows what else, we can't be too careful.

I think it's annoying too. In my short time here, I've seen a lot of this going on. I don't mind so much if the person is a good "myLot friend". Which means, they contribute to your discussions in a good way. I have a couple of frequenters, and they've sent me different things to try. But, it's all I can do to keep up with myLot, school, work and home. I can't possibly do more!

I totally know what you mean. I don't work but I have more than enough things to be getting on with without signing up for new things that people swear aren't scams. Of course they'll swear they're not scams. They get money out of referrals. I too have no issue with Mylot friends sending me different things to try, it's just when people who don't contribute to discussions or responses in any way then decide to spam me with a whole heap of referral links. Thats when I get annoyed.

I totally agree with you. It is just annoying and a waste of my time to deal with these people. There are enough discussions with referrals links in them so people don't need to start sending you private messages as well. I am with you, I just delete them when I get messages like that.

It bugs me too when people post discussions with their links in lol, because as far as I'm aware, thats supposed to be against the Mylot rules. I know people say they report this when they see it. I'm just thankful that out of the friends I interact with on a regular basis have enough respect for themselves and others not to go begging for referrals.

No, it's not just you. Now that IS nervy-- someone actually re-applying, after you drop them. I have had a number of people send me friends requests, and the first thing that happens is that I get a message with a referral link. Or they just post it on the "comments" on my profile page. I've gotten really particular about who I approve as friends. I read a number of their discussions AND responses before deciding. I prefer to limit my friends list to people's whose discussions I care to read. And it's a real "red flag" for me when someone with just a handful of posts, who joined the site one day earlier, requests to be on my friends list... and already have 100+ friends on their profile. What's UP with that? Some people are ONLY on sites like this for the purpose of making money.
• Canada
16 Mar 07
Exactly. It's crazy the number of people who think it's good to sign up to places like here with the sole intention of just getting more referrals to other sites. I wish Mylot had some sort of rule that would not allow the spammers to get away with this. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to know who the spammers are till they've spammed someone.

You are not the only one annoyed by this one. I don't think thats what MyLot was trying to achieve when they erected this site for users. Its a nice quirk that you get paid, but for some thats all they are thinking about. I to have friend request waiting in the wings. i view their profile and see if they have responded to any of my discussions. I haven't deleted anyone yet, but I think that as your numbers go up, your ratings etc..people tend to flock to you. Not sure why, perhaps you are a popular chicky on here now Rugrat..hehe..but in the end, its us that decides if they are going to be our friend or not...

Lol, I dunno about being popular. (and what is it with people making me blush LOL) I have something like 60 friends, and I can barely keep up, although I know some of them haven't posted in a while so it might be time to delete a few more of them lol. I just absolutely hate those who are using Mylot as a way to get referrals for other websites that may or may not be scams.

Well I think that it defeats the whole purpose of MyLot, thats not at all what I am here for. I love the discussions, and making new friends with genuine concern that sometimes benefit from "my" opinions and advice. Its nice to know that at least in here someone listens to me..haha...as for the blushing, i am sure its a nice rosy color on you..lol

I see your point in that maybe they thought they were doing me a favor - but unfortunately, they more than likely wanted me to sign up on their referral link in order to make more money for themselves because most sites like this, and others, have a referral scheme where the person with referrals gets a portion of what their referrals make. It's all about money these days, and it's sad. I'm glad the money isn't why I signed up to Mylot.
