Once my boss got me to read one of his favorite books- which he lent to me- and I didn't like it very much. It was a very sad, depressing book and I was also in a very negative place in my life so it wasn't helping. I eventually told him I couldn't finish it and gave it back, but I felt bad because he loved that book so much.

Thankfully I haven't had it happen with a friend yet but I have had it happen with my one brother. He likes these books and in his opinion you have to read them. He will bug you until you do. Usually I hate them. I don't know what he loves about them but to me they are boring and I cannot relate to the characters at all. Sometimes I'll tell him how I feel on it; other times I'll just kind of shrug and say it was ok. I try then to avoid discussing it so I don't have to explain again and again why I didn't like it. Once is never good enough for him. He has to argue about each point. Avoidance is best in those cases.

That happens all the time to me. I real a lot so people always impress on me their books of choice. I read them and some of them are garbage. I also recommend books too and I'm sure that they would be writing the same thing about me too.

Yes, someone gave me a few books to read, I read 2 of them in a about 3 days, they were so mindless and boring, I gave them back. She could not believe I read 2 of them in that short period of time, and could remember them. SHe loved them and took 2-3 weeks to read them, reading for at least an hour every night, she thought they were complicated, I would have put the plot closer to children's level. I told I did not like them, I did not want to appear snobbish or her feel dumb. I was not embarassed, it was just courtesy.
