Wild life in the back yard.

Tonight after dinner I was talking with my husband by the window overlooking our back yard. When I looked up two doves were sitting on our deck railing. It made me really happy. We get rabbits and squirels and a few of the more common birds around here, but I never saw any wild doves up close before. It was really cool. Do you get wild life in your yard or near by?

Hey up there!! - Can you find the squirrel?
Oh yes!! and I love it! I live right by the river that runs through our city and every time I go for a run alongside it, I take my small digital camera. I have seen deer, coyote, rabbits, squirrels, skunks, a beaver(only once)ducks, and Canada Geese. This area is a natural breeding ground for the geese... They will be mating soon and the mommas will be hissing at me when I run past because their nests are close to the pathway. Once the geese are born it is really something to see. There might be 10 adult Geese herding around 80 babies. It's like a daycare or something.. I will take pictures this Spring and share them..... Once I had 2 big Canada Geese on my balcony kicking up a ruckus........

I love watching the geese too, although we have to watch them in town. The bigger buildings have water areas to help incase of a fire so the geese like living there. Sometimes they waddle out into traffic and it causes problems. Where I used to live there was a walking trail around the water and we used to watch the geese every day. One year there was two baby geese and their parents. All the other geese moved on, but these two stayed to have their babies I guess. We got to watch them grow up. I remember we just happened to be outside one day while they were trying to teach them how to fly. It looked like a couple of teenagers taking drivers ed. It was a real joy to watch. It's great that you take your camera, I've thought about doing that myself. Thanks for sharing.

Lots of wildlife around here-- I guess it helps to live just a few blocks from a 500+ acre state park. Right now the red-winged blackbirds are getting ready to nest in the small marshy area behind the house; on a regular basis there are raccoons visiting (tie down the trash!), and I have seen a weasel run around behind the garage, a couple of times. There's a lake a couple of hundre yards away, and I can hear the Canada geese over there. A few weeks ago, I was looking out the window around dusk, and a BIG "winter coated" coyote trotted slowly across the empty lot next door.

It must be nice living next to a 500+acre state park. I bet it is a really fun place to go with family and friends. I've never seen a red-winded blackbird, but we have lots of Canadian geese, coyotes and racoons hear. If your picture is from where you live it looks like beautiful country. Thanks for sharing.

Well not at my home, but my institute is situated in the jungle area of the city and we happen to see some wildlife there. But the menace of wild elephant was such that we had to put electric fence so as to save our gardens.

Wow, elephants. I've never seen an elephant outside of a zoo. That's pretty cool. I bet they are amazing. And I was worried about keeping the squirels out of the garden. I'm glad you shared, I live in such a small world I never thought about having to keep elephants out of my garden. What's it like where you live?
