I had my wisdom teeth surgically removed when I was 18. They kept bothering me and wouldn't come up and stay up so they surgically removed them. I was put under and when I woke up they were gone. It was an easy surgery, but I did get an impacted gum so they had to go back in and release all the gunk in there and pack it up with medicated gauze for a few days. Other than that, it was fine. Not everyone has problems, though.

It not that bad than I thought would be. I thought it would be very painful.

I had mine out when I was 18 or 19. They had to cut into my gums for three of the teeth, so they put me under for the surgery. I don't remember a thing about it. I was rather nausious afterwards from the anesthetic, but my mouth only hurt a little bit. I didn't have any bruising or swelling afterwards either, which was nice. Mostly, you just can't eat solid foods for a few days while the gums heal up. It is not too horrible.
