controlling men of God behind the pulpits? Controlling spirits are not of God. I have in the church I have went to many years ago, before leaving God. Thank God I'm back!

Our current pastor is like that. Both him and his wife. They have run so many people out of the church. People that have been on the church board, people that have been in the church for over 20 years, new members, etc.... I just had another run-in with them over the weekend. Every move you even think about making has to be part of a big meeting with them. For example, I am the leader of the weight loss group at our church, I emailed the pastor's wife to get a couple dates that worked so that I couple get the opinions of the group members on possibly changing the meeting time and freqency. I wasn't going to change anything - just wanted opinions. I received back a novel!!! Over a page long explaining how they needed to be in the meeting and oversee it - that nothing changes in the church without their approval, how I need to communicate to them better, etc... Lets just say that I blew my top and resigned as the group leader.

not personally, because I do not hang around churches where I do not like what I see or here. I am very particular about that. Just cause a person says he is a man of god, does not mean that he acts that way.

Yes, there are some who are controlling. I think it's a danger of the position because we give men too much power. It happens much too often and we always need to guard against it. I'm glad you got away from it. Don't forget to pray for those who are still caught up in it.
