Recently, there are email spreading in the internet in Hong Kong (the city I lived in). She was interviewed by a radio program, The content was about a 16 years old girl, whose parents are not rich at all, need to pay more than HKD$10,000 (that is about USD$1,500) per month for her mobile phone fee! That is carzy! She say that she send SMS to her friends and talk with her friend on phone all day, she spend at least 10 hours per day! She next mentioned that she had bought a very expensive Gucci bag, and she bought this because she want to show to other people that she is "rich". She is really naive, and she is not mature at all. Don't she know that it is not easy for her parents to earn money? It is a very tough task! How can she spend so much on these things which is not a must to have? If you have a daughter, or family member like her, what can you do?

Oh not so sweet 16! She is just a kid though.I would have expected her to understand ,but she's growing up and will be mature after the incident.Hopefully, her friends would be by her side and let her know that it's not as important to be hip and rich as it is to be supportive towards ones family.I didn't follow this news, but if there is any remorse she might be feeling now for being irresponsible and careless ,then this experience will make her wiser.

The worst thing is that she did not feel guilty. She does not think that she did something wrong! In the radio interview, the DJs are scolding at that girl in an indirect way, but the girl is just laughing and does not think that it is her fault. I also hope that she can learn something in this incident. Thank you for your response, bluewings!

no she is definatly not mature, and sounds spoiled rotten to boot. i cant believe they let her phone bill get that high! they should take it away from her! and if she wants another phone, she has to pay for it herself. this is ultimatly the parents fault though. they should have put a stop to her phone use long before it reached $100(USD)!

Yes, that's true, she should pay it by herself, she should not rely on her parents to pay with the bill, because it is not a must for parents to pay for the mobile phone fee, especially for those who talk so much on mobile, right?

oh, that's a parent big problem. well, maybe parents should explain to their daughter that they are not rich and uncapable of such expenses. they should let the child realize that it's not easy to earn money nowadays. they should teach their daughter a lesson...one is give her money enough for her need. if she complains, don't mind her, tell her to find a job if she really wants to have extra...she should experience how difficult to earn money. In that way, she'll get more mature and maybe realize that all she has done was really not right...and that shame on her for making her parents suffered from spending unnecessary things because of her. that girl needs discipline.

By the way, finally, her parents cannot pay the bill for her, and the one of the aunties of that girl help her to pay for the bill. But of course, the girl need to pay her aunt back, which is about USD$150 per month. It takes 10 months for the girl to pay for the mobile phone fee for 1 month! If she had another USD$1500 bill next month, she can never never finish her bill...
