One observes while visiting a shopping mall, sometimes slide moving on the cable network, a banner hanged at prominent place of the town, a big advertisement covering half or full page of a knowned newspaper etc to attarct the attention of customers. All these sort of attractions for selling the items on Discount Rates and some times deal offers like "buy one get one" or "gift hamper offer etc. I think either all sort of these things are meant to boost up the sale figure at a low profit rate or just to get the dump removed from store before a certain season is closed. What do you think for all these? These items are as good as the new or have some sort of fault?

I think, most of the time these sales are genuine. The product is not defective/faulty. The reason for reduced price is that the seller reduces his margin. He overcomes the loss incurred buy achieving good sales figures volumewise. There are some sales in which product which is a bit faulty is sold. But I think they are called "Reduction Sale".

I always like to take a look at them. Most shops just need to clear goods and put up new stuff

Here in the States we have what are called "Outlet Stores" These are stores that sell seconds meaning there is usally a slight flaw. Sometimes just a faded color spot. A seam sewn wrong etc. Other stores have these sales for the purpose of getting rid of discontinued items usuall. I shop for any and all bargains. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

I have worked in retail and trust me, even at deep discounts, the store is still making a profit. The mark up on things is unbelievable. For example, the 22oz jar candle at a particular store only costs $1.75 to make but it sells for $23.99. That is a huge mark up so when they go on sale as "Buy One, Get One Free" the store is not losing any money on the free one. When I worked at a ladies clothing store, we would get jeans that were priced at $75 a pair and 'put them on sale" for $50. The actual cost of the jeans was only $13. So even on sale, we made profits. Things on discount are usually the items that the stores use to lure the customers in. Most customers will come to look at the discount/sale items but buy other things at full price. Even grocery stores know this. Ever notice when grocery stores put things on sale like "10 for $10". These items are called loss leaders and a lot of the time you will get to the store and they are out of the sale item, but you don't leave, you end up buying other things at full price. That is what the stores are banking on. Also all items for sale/discount are brand new. They are lures to get you into the store to spend your money. The items are fine and usually good quality. At least here in the states they are.

any busniess man unless and until he has some profit he wont go for discounts.so we just cant say whether they are good or bad but we need to lokk for the quality of the product.actually these business men will go for discounts when the old stock is still available as they cant get payed back from the retailer for the original price so they will sell these items in this way.

Those are mostly items that they haven't been able to sell (in case of malls) and in case of other things, it may seem that we benefit, but its really the other way, they profit from those, although a little, but still they make a profit. But i think, that those are as good as new (except a few).

Sometimes I will buy the things on discount offer. Especially for clothes. You know that the famous brand clothes are so expensive,I have to wait for discount time to buy them. Most of them are not suitable for the present season.Just like you said, some of them are dum from store, and they didn't sell well in last season. I also find that some discount items are not good, especially in supermarket. "buy one get one", mostly they are items which couldn't be eaten in no time. Of course, they are some new items in the markets, they also will have some discount offer in order to develop their markets. Maybe the shops reduce their profits indeed, but mostly, we buy them without any discount, there is a saying in China" Wool is taken from the sheep",that is to say, we pay for all the items we bought although it seems that we got some discount.I have to confirm that the sales leaders are really good at psychology. They could think over many promotion ways without any loss, then we consumers will help them to achieve their sales goals willingly. :)

yes, i am definitely a bargain hunter and i always try to save money by buying discount items... and yes, i think they are nothing wrong with the goods... they are as good as new... if you can get exactly the same item for a lower price, why you have to pay full price??? am i right??? this is what i call smart shopping... :-)

I love buying things on discount... Whenever there is any discount on Clothes, books, Vcd's etc. I rush to nearest shop and buy something for myself or for somebody else. The last thing which I bought on Discount was A pack of 2 movies which I liked a lot for the price of one...

In the US, if an item is faulty - it has to be declared at such. Which is why we have outlet stores and factory reject stores - where you CAN buy slightly damaged items for a very low price. But really, most retail items have such a LARGE mark-up on them, that paying FULL price is stupid! Items always go on sale. I rarely buy anything at full price. I used to work in retail, so I know the cycle for full price to sale price. There's no reason to ever buy at full price.

I love buying discounted stuff as long as the brand name is known for its quality. Sometimes i buy cheap things but end up buying a new one because of its poor quality.

Sometimes they are defective, and other times they are not. They just want to clean out their stock, and offer good discounts.

yes i buy. as far as the fault good is concerned, it depends upon the outlet whether it is in shopping mall or it is brand company or it is peddlar shop. if you go in brand company such as Reymond, Gwalior Suitings and other big outlets. but if you purchase it from road shopkeeper it would be really hard to disgest and you will be victim.

I do buy things on discount. But I am usually very careful specially if it is food. I check on the label and the expiry dates, I look on the packaging as well.

I think that the difference is that the items are sold with less profit. Its like the things made this year for specific season will not have the same shine and quality on next year the same season. So it is better to sell it on the same season and get little profit rather then waiting for the next year and get no sale as well as profit. But not all offers be like this, some be for damaged items too :)

There are many reasons the business men do the adveertise like this. 1) To increase sales 2) to sale the old goods 3) to face competation 4) to introduce new products. Goods sold are sometime of the good conditon but some times it was very poor qulity. you have to check the quality at the time of purchasin
