How Do The Police Sketch Artist Draw Those Faces?

I love shows like CSI, NCIS and The Unit. I have a hunger for the police and Crime scene shows. I have always wondered how the police sketch artist drew pictures of people free handed or these days on a computer. I found this really cool site that will make me a sketch artist for as long as I want to be entertained as such. To begin with, you will need a flash player. You probably already have one on your computer. If you don’t have a flash player, you can get one here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash If you already have one, you are good to go. Go to this site: http://flashface.ctapt.de/ Now you need to choose a feature. Select either hair, head, eyebrows, glasses, eyes, nose, moustache, mouth, jaw or beard. Remember, you are going to be the artist. You’ll find those under the select heading near the middle of the page. Then from the left side, you can choose different styles of the type you chose. For example, I chose hair and on the left side, I now have a total 67 different hairstyles to choose from. Wow, now how overwhelming is that?? When you select a hairstyle, it will appear on the blank canvas on the right side of the page. You can then move it around and even customize it by using the item scale, item opacity and feature options back on the left side. Then all you have to do is just go through the rest of the features until you have a face completed and you did it right before your very eyes. Once you’ve finished creating your face, you can go to the options on the right side of the page and chose to save, delete or print your creation. Now How Cool is That?

thanks for the link! My daughter & I just got back from going to the site...it's great fun! I have to admit we got the giggles alot too, trying to put features of people we know together & kinda messing up at it.Anyway, I too share your interest in that kind of art.I had an uncle that would sketch for the police, the stories were really interesting to listen to.It's a true gift to be able to sketch like that.

My daughter wishes to be a detective so I will share this with her. It might help in some way. You find so many neat sites and I sure do appreciate you sharing them here. Makes the world a bit smaller! Will be interesting to see what you share next. I thought I was creative, you sure beat me.

I think someone who can do that must be very talented! That might be kind of cool, trying your hand at it.. How 'bout a self portrait? Thanks for the link!

I Think they use computers now, the drawings come out much better, but I do remember seeing sketches on the news when they are looking for somebody here in montreal

Hi Villageanne, I am a fan of the csi and similar show es as well and I do not have Microsoft word so it didn't work for me but i assume that it is an identity kit, they have used them for years and can get very good likenesses.
