How do you spend your free time? And WHY?!

I see more and more people spend their whole free time sitting in front of their TV watching useless TV shows, soap operas or whatever. Don't people want to get smarter by reading books and at least watching shows or films that educate them! Follow latest political evens so you choose the right parson to vote for! Or do your favorite sports yourself instead of watching them. People lose their ability to think! Why do you think it is so?

For forty hours a week at my job I have to think and make decisions. At home, I have to deal with a child who has depression and social anxiety ( she never wants to go out of the house or do anything with other people ). When I have free time (not much) I just want to sit back and be entertained. No, I don't want to think or learn do anything but relax!

lol..what's this free time thing you speak of? Seriously, though what little free time I spend is watching rented dvds of tv shows I never get to watch, reading, writing, running, or at the library (sometimes a few of these things are combined). I don't get to relax or unwind often and these things do that for me..I enjoy them. Besides the fact I don't have alot of free time or time to plain old relax lol. I agree that alot of people are becoming stupid and lazy these days but I'm glad for the exceptions lol.

Sadly, I spend way too much time in front of this computer. There's a bright side, however. Quite often I have the TV going on in the background.

I have got some interesting data from a public poll for you regarding how people spend their free time. Hang out with friends 7% Go out and get drunk 21% Travel 7% On the Internet 36% Don't have free time 11% Other 18% This was the data which people gave on a public poll regarding spending their free time. Well Me I would go with 36% people and say I spend my extra time on internet.

I'm not gonna lie I do watch a lot of tv and movies, but I also read more than most people that sit in front of the television. I have along list of books i've read and it just keeps getting longer. I also like to draw and write when I can.

I have a small studio set up in my house and I sing and play my guitar and bass after my kids go to sleep. During they day I take my girls for walks on this mile-long nature trail on the near-by inlet. When my husband isn't in Iraq I go on walks, runs or take my bike out all by myself so I can de-stress. Exercise, nature and music keep me sane and grounded.

I try not to watch a whole lot of TV, because most of it isn't all that interesting these days anyway. When I have free time (which isn't very often, because I work a lot and am in class or doing homework...). I like to make jewelry to sell in my shop, sometimes I will do some reading, and I tend to spend quite a bit of time online, especially now that I am doing all this money making stuff and whatnot... I do think that society focuses on TV way to much now. A lot of parents leave the raising of their children up to television.... It's sad, but it seems like thats the way that our culture is heading.

It can`t be that bad. Some people just do not think much and they never did. Before television there were other things to watch, like public executions for example. Not so many people could even read, and the education was reserved for few. It doesn`t mean, that they were stupid. They just lived to work hard, not to learn new things. BUT i`m afraid that you may be right, especially when I think about the last voting in my country. It scares me somehow. I dont have a TV in my house. I guess I just don`t need it, prefering watching DVD movies. And the TV is really a waste of time for me.

In fairness to those TV lovers, they are not all junk. You can also learn about life's lessons watching soap operas. Can't you get smarter by watching documentaries/news on TV. You cannot tell anybody to do this or do that. If you love reading then there must be some high or benefit you get out of it, but others would think you're just wasting your time. In other words, whatever other people do with their free time, it's their choice or they don't have other choices. I only watch TV when I get tired sitting infront of the computer and the people I live with also ask me the same question you are asking now. :D

The things that I do during my free time are varied. But most of it are spent in front of the computer, either by browsing, playing word games, chatting online. There are times that I go to the malls, still browsing (as in window shopping). I seldom read books anymore because I can do that on the net. Sometimes I go out with friends to at least remind myself that I still am a human being with social needs. LOL.

personally i call the tv the idoit box. i have 2 kids one is 9 and the other is 12. we let them watch about 2 hours of tv a week and we are always there with them. my kids love to read though so they read insted of watching tv since tv is not allowed. i will admit before i had kids i watched alot of tv. i was bored and broke and well tv was a way to zone out and not worry about my personal issues. now though since i have had kids i looked at what was on tv and to tell you the truth i dont want my kids learning what they put on basic tv much less cable or satelite. i think for alot of people tv is a cheap form of entertainment that helps you stop thinking of what life has gave you.

What people should do in their spare time ? 1. Read newspapers. 2. Listen to news. 3. Read books. 4. Visit some place. 5. Visit a relative/friend with whom they have not met recently. What people mostly do ? 1. Watch TV. 2. Play video games. 3. Party. 4. Discuss politics with street persons and neighbours. 5. Talk badly about each other. 6. Watch more TV. Yes. People loose their ability to think in doing things that should be least done. So I request you to try to tell everybody you know to do things which are listed first.

It is because of modernization. People became so tired of other stuff, with tv,computer etc. people became dependent with technology, they are entertained well with those stuff.Instead of enhancing there reading skill they choose the net as substitute for it...In the Net they can find what they're looking for in just seconds unlike in books, it take them hours..The best thing to do is to limit their time with those stuff:)
