To all the Christian who can help me to understand more about Christian, can you please explain to me about the law in Old Testament. Why is it not applicable any more to the Christian. It just make me a bit confiused. If it is not meant for the Christian why is it included in the Bible ? Furthermore, when I read in bible in Matthew 5:17 - 20 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one title shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfill. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them , the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousnessof the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." According to the verses above to my understanding, Jesus was sent to fulfill laws. Is it Moses law or is it somebody else law ? If it is Moses law, I believe it was written in the Old Testament, why most of Christian say it is an old law, and Jesus bring new law in New Testament and cancel the old ones. But in the Bible it was written that Jesus is to fulfill law. It means that the law is already exist. Jesus just to carry on with/continue to what is already written. If it is not Moses law, whose law it would be ?

I could be way off base here, but it doesn't seem to me that it is about Jesus dispising Moses' Law; it is about Jesus showing us threw act of demonstration the strength and versitility of God's love. The Bible teaches us that we sin and can be forgiven of that sin. When Jesus doesn't go along with a stoning or some other act of violence, it is to show us that we all make mistakes and choose the wrong path from time to time, but rather than being judgmental, we should try to help that person find their way again. Often when we overlook our own mistakes, we open ourselves to the possibility of making that same mistake and others in the future. It is easier to see the faults of others than to open our own eyes to the things that we fall short at. Jesus just tried to show us that holding disregard for others only darkens our own heart and blinds us to the wrongs that we do. That doesn't mean that we should be doormats and let others walk all over us, but that we shouldn't hold on to things for years or turn away from someone just because they make a mistake. If you can help them you should. Give that person time to see where they went wrong and that there is a better way (you may need someone to do the same for you one day). However, if you have tried everything and that person is still unopen to what God offers, you have to be willing to let them find their own way in life. I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more.

Thanks for your reply, but I still not satisfied though. Because they said the law was fulfilled by Jesus except for the ten comandments. Why was the ten comandments was not fulfill ?

you are right about that but, most of the laws written in the old testament were only applicable to the israelites of those time, just like the tiths, its a law during moses time to give at least 10% of what you earned for the church, but during the time of jesus (christianity era), members are ordered to give according to what he can, with no hard feelings.. but some of the laws in the OT sre still in the NT, like forbids to worship engraven images or idols, no other god before the Father, forbids to eat blood or food with blood.. maybe the next time i reply you i have more concrete and solid anwers for your questions.. hope i could extend some help to you...

From what i understand the law of Moses is applicable to the Jews in the time of the prophets, including Moses. The law of Jesus is not another law it applies to the needs of the people in our time.In short they are like the bills in congress, not repealed but amended. For example the 10% or tithing cannot be applied to us because in the 12 tribes of Israel,11 of them has different occupation and so the 12th tribe is rendered as the priest of the tribes. How can you apply this law now.The law about an eye for an eye,a tooth for a tooth is a law for the people in the time of Moses. This law is still in effect, the difference is God not the people will execute this law.The law about many wives is not in effect,it is repealed because God knows it will create many troubles. All the laws about the 10 commandments are applicable to this days, honor thy parents, loveof God,thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not covet other wives are still applicable to this days.

After looking some discussions and replies to this discussion, I also got only doubts in this case, some ask others why quote form OT? In some Bible Verses, especially in Gospels it says must follow Old testament laws, in some other places mainly in the books of Peter and Paul it says no longer under the law. Matt 5: 17-19, Luke 24: 42-45,I Cor 2:1, Acts 24:14 are saying: Any one break one of commandments, and teach others so, he will be least in the kingdom of heaven. All the things written in the law of Moses, prophets, and in psalms should be fulfilled. Jesus declares the existing testimony of God not for excellency. One little shall not pass from the law till all be fulfilled. believe in God of fathers and all things written in law and prophets.

No that's not moses law that was God's eternal law which given to moses at that time yes Jesus did fulfilled the law but he never said that it was finished to the cross. many of the Christians today have confused with this kind of law. is it moses law or Gods law. i will give you an example granting that the law of God is already finish to the cross. i will site you one of the commandments of God thou shall not kill. if we follow the teachings of those blind Christian do you think you can do killing your own family or neighbors? for me the law of God is eternal and the law of moses rely and depends only to the eternal law of God...

You are correct to say this. After all, I cant sit around and tell ya the 10 command ments means nothing. But lets use that for an example its a good one. God still wants us to obey Him, and not sin. But we will sin, its how it goes. NOONE is perfect (and those who say so are lying which is a sin as well!). However if we break a commandment or aka SIN then we are to ask God to forgive our sins. As Christians this is the ONLY thing we need to do to be forgiven. We dont need to sacrafice an animal or anything. The MAJORITY of laws in the Old Testament were for the Jews only in that day. They dont apply to the New Testament and Christians because Jesus came to all things new. I am talking those little laws about all that stuff. The basic stuff like loving the Lord your God with all your heart, its still there. So I'd say the basics like the 10 commandments and all that still apply. But the ones beyond that arent appliable. I hope this clears things up, it is a bit cofusing if you truly think about (like you have forced me to do heehee) so its kinda hard to explain without sounding confusing. I btw I am trying to explain best *I* understand it. I'm not necessarily right, but I think I am at least close (or I hope *Grins*).

People have different interpretations of the Bible, I couldn't say whether what I understand is right and other views are wrong or vise versa. Try reading the chapter of the Letter of Paul to the Galatians: Galatians 3: 16-17, 19, 22-25 16 - God make his promises to Abraham and to his descendant...namely Jesus Christ... 17.-...God made a covenant with Abraham and promised to keep it. The law...cannot break that covenant and cancel God's promise. 19 - ...the purpose of the law?... it was added in order to show what wrong doing is, and it was meant to last until the coming of Abraham's descendant to whom the promise was made. 22. - ...and so the gift which is promised on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ is given to those who believe. 23. But before the time for faith came, the Law kept us all locked up as prisoners until the coming faith should be revealed. 24. And so the law was in charge of us until Christ came, in order that we might then be put right with God through faith. 25. Now that the time for faith is here, the law is no longer in charge of us. We are not saved by following the Old commandments but by faith alone in the one God sent, which is Christ. And to my interpretation the only commandment that Jesus requires of us is "To love our neighbor a as we love ourself" because all of his commandments is summed up in this one.

well as what it was thought to us... the 10 commandments in the Old Testament was summarized by Jesus in the new testament. "Love one another as I have loved you!" this only shows the entirety of those 10 commandments. the utmost rule is LOVE... and LOVE alone. if you love you spouse then you will not commit adultery. if you love your brethren then you will not harm him. you would not steal from him. you will not covet his wife. if you love your parents then you will honor them. and Jesus didnt mean to cancel the old laws. he simplified it. so it would adapt thru the ages. for me, as long as i dont harm any of my brethren. then i dont bend any laws nor break em. just my $.2

Also, I thought I remembered that saying prophecy, not law - as in Jesus came to fulfill the prophecies of the old testament, not the laws. The basic deal is that the laws of the old testament were trumped by the forgiveness of sins that Jesus brought about. So when in conflict, Christians go with the New Testament.

The law that the Bible is refering is God's law. Although there are conflicts on Moses' and Jesus law, God brought Jesus to us to correct that law and make clear to us. Some of the laws of Moses was tolerated by God because humans are hard headed. That is why Jesus came to being so that He will make clear what God's law really is about.
