Moms out there....do you vacuum everyday?

United States
March 21, 2007 12:55pm CST
I am starting this discussion because am tired of welding our Dirt Devil heavy vacuum and I do it every single day...vacuum the entire house because I can't stand vacuuming one room and not doing the rest. I am not a neat freak but my toddler leaves a fruity pebbles trail on the carpet most of the times, even if I told her to just eat at the table. Next thing I know, I see some on the living room. Aside from that, we got a little dog too and my daughter just want to roll around the carpet even if I told her to sit in the couch if she is watching her program. So, do you vacuum everyday? I wish I had Oreck though coz I wouldn't mind doing it everyday, but welding a heavy thing around is just too much.

We have 2 dogs to take care of any cereal that gets dropped! I don't vacuum much, because my vacuum doesn't really do anything. It's old and the brush doesn't work right, so the floor is just as hairy, so I don't bother. I really need a good vacuum though. I hate seeing all the hair on DS (15 months)! When I do get a good vacuum, I'll do the major areas every day, and the less messy stuff maybe once a week or so. Things like the baseboards and ceilings (we have texture and dust sticks) maybe once a month or so. I hate having the hair all over!

Our dog is quite picky and just sniff the cereal on the carpet...lol. It would have been easier if he just eat it out. I forgot to mention that one of the reason I vacuum too is my husband got sensitive nose and next thing you know, he will be sneezing. Even if it is from the allergens outside, I just make sure that there is not that much dirt/dog hair/dust in the house. Thanks...

Oh gosh, I do the same thing too, before my husband comes home from work because I know he will be so tired and coming home in a messy house will make it worse. He comes home at around 5:30...so 3 pm down...it is picking up time. Thanks.

It can be disheartenuing, my boys bedroom is always so messy too, I spend ages putting things away, although I have no idea why, it's quite depressing at the moment if I'm honest, I feel that it doesn't look any differnet choose how much effort I make, sorry to whinge.

When am just so tired, that is what am thinking off...why bother? I can do it tomorrow...but then I found myself going into the hall closet and just cranking the vacuum away. The one I got has a canister on it instead of a bag, so I just have to pour it but I have to change the filter now and then. Thanks...

We have a tile floor and one carpet in each room. I vacuum only once a week. I try to wash floor every other day. I don't need to vacuum the carpets every day. Perhaps when our son will crawl, I'll have to clean them more thoroughly :)

That is the main concern, kids. Coz if it is just me and husband before, I vacuum every other day or 2 to 3 times a week. But then now with my toddler, she want to lay down on the carpet even if I spread her activity blanket. Thanks for the comment...

I don't even get a chance to do it everyday. I do it once a week. The little lady keeps me too busy to get a chance to clean.

If you don't have a pet that is ok. My toddler learns to pick up her things when Mommy takes out the vacuum coz I told her, if all her things is not pick up, I vacuum everything...lol. I can't believe sometimes how a toddler keeps you on your tippy toes all the time. Thanks....

Have you considered getting a Roomba? I've been wanting to get one, as my dog sheds constantly. I'm not about to vacuum every day. I just do it 3 times a week, and let it go the rest of the time. With a Roomba you could set it up, and let it do the work when you don't feel like it. Another option is to get a good canister vacuum. I used to have one, and it lasted for years. It was easy to use, especially on steps and furniture, and not heavy like an upright.

I saw that on the commercial and the thing about is my dog chase everything that moves and probably would attack it. And probably my toddler will stop it constantly coz it might be fascinating with her. I don't mind having an Oreck because it is just so light but for now, it is still too expensive for me plus we just got our vacuum. Thanks...

Since I dont have a rug I find myself sweeping everyday. Between the kids and the pets I dont know who makes the most messes. The birds throw there seed shells all over the place, the cats drag things all over and the kids spill and drop everything they can.

Thankfully the down stairs of my house has timber floors so it's just a matter of sweeping (phew). I hoover the bedrooms once a week. If I had a dog I would hoover daily, just because of the hair, but I'd probably keep the dog outside.

I have to vacuum just about every day too! Luckily I have a pretty light vacuum so it isn't too bad. The most frustrating part is that my 20month old son does make a bit of a mess but it's his father that does most of it! I'll spend a good amount of time cleaning and then he'll get home from work and walk through the whole house with his muddy sandy boots on!!! And then I have to vacuum all over again! We don't have any pets anymore so that's not an issue either. If only I could train him to take his shoes off before walking in lol

Let him vacuum after himself, then he definitely would take off his shoes...lol. During the weekend, I will asked my husband to vacuum for me...and gosh, he sounds like a general telling our daughter and our dog to not make any mess. That is just vacuuming like once in a month mind you. I wonder how he would act if he will vacuum every day...lol. Thanks...

I guess that is one of the advantage of hardwood floors, not vacuum. I would exchange my vacuum for a broom anytime..lol. Thanks

I vacuum every other day. Of course we don't have pets so I don't have to worry about pet hair. If we had pets I would probably be ocd about vacuuming.

Yes i do vacuum everyday, like downstairs where the living room, kitchen and the dining is located i have to do it 2-3times a day, and yes, same reason cause my kids play where i stay most of the day. I know it is tiring but after doing it, it feels good to see its clean again...then i do the 2nd floor and 3rd every other day. Yes it is tiring dear...:-)

I do I have a toddler that leaves some of everything she eats every where especially in my livingroom. I have to vacuum my love seat and couch out every day because that is were all the mess is. I have to do the floor also but my dog (who is her best friend and you see why) cleans up after her. (if she likes it lol) But I feel you pain.

I just told my husband that I wanted an Oreck too because we saw a commercial on tv about them earlier tonight. We have a dog and a cat and I try to vacume everyday but I'd be lying if I said I did. I make sure I vacume every other day for sure if I can't do it everday because the pet hair gets all over otherwise.

I want my Oreck too...lol. My in-laws got the newest one and geez, I fallen in love with it. I was the official vacuum cleaner when I was with them visiting. That thing has so poweful sucking motion plus it is sooooooo light. The only thing it was around $575 something...compare to my dirt devil of $99...it feels like too much money. But someday, I will gift myself with that...after all, I am doing the work. lol...thanks for the comment.

I vaccuum everyday. It's gotten to the point of where I like it! LOL We have all hardwood and ceramic tile in our house and it is a total pain in the hiney. When I vacuum some stuff gets blown around so I end up vaccuuming the same spot multiple times. Between the dogs and the kids it's a never ending battle! I might as well glue the swiffer wet jet to my hands because it seems like I'm using it non stop. I thought about getting carpet, but my dad said withthe traffic in our house it'd be ruined in a month, and he's probably right. Isn't being an adult fun?! LOL

I can just understand what your going thru...lol. Vacuuming comes to a point where it is automatic that you reach for it when you see all these things on your floor. I just hope when my toddler is bigger, I have to do it less. But the problem is that, am expecting soon so if my toddler got over being messy, I will start from square one. Thanks....

I say be thankful for that vacuum, imagine sweeping a 7 room house, everyday, five of the rooms being carpet. Talk about a real strain.

I vaccumm about 1-2 a week, it just depends on how messy the floor gets. Like if it is just a couple of things I either just pick them up with my hands and throw them away or I get out my little hand held vac. If it is too messy than I get out the big vaccum and go to town.
