Do you like olives?

March 21, 2007 3:04pm CST
I am not a great fan of olives. I bought some for the weekend when I had people over and I have some left. I'm not sure what to do with them. I have a couple of recipes with olives that I could try, but I'm not sure if they would make them taste better. Would someone who likes olives let me know if you think the recipes would be good for me or if there is a way to eat them that I my like. Here are the links to the recipes: http://www.recipesforvegans.co.uk/chilliinfusedolives.html http://www.recipesforvegans.co.uk/stuffedolives.html http://www.recipesforvegans.co.uk/avocadoandolivespread.html http://www.recipesforvegans.co.uk/crushedpotatoeswitholives.html

I absolutely love olives, and think one poster is right in that either you love them or you don't. I love them in salads, on pizza, with tacos (you could make Quorn tacos), or put them into a pasta sauce. Do your girls like them?

My older daughter wont even try them because she knows I don't like them, but the youngest has tried them and didn't like them, but I'm sure she would try them again, she is much mroe adventurous than her sister.

I am a green olive fanantic. My mom craved green olives while she was pregnant with me (with peanut butter...eeww). But I love green olives with anything, on anything, in anything or just by themselves. LOL

No recipes needed for me, I just love eating olives the way they are. Yummmm...juicy, sour, whether green ones or black, just thinking of them makes the mouth water. The only dish with olives I know is pizza, and I'm sure you know the recipe of that! Search for "olives" in the mylot discussions. I did. There are a couple or mor recipes there.

Olive is good to the health. Some books reveal it has certain substance which may clear extra harmful cholesterol in our body. These suggest people use olive oil to cook instead of peanut oil or animal oil. A long term of using olive oil is a good way to keep our circulation system in the top shape.

I quite enjoy olives. I'm not too sure of the recipes provided as they are just based on pure olives. You could try the following: green olives with the red bits (can't ever remember what they're called); with cheese cubes. Or pitted black olives with feta cheese in them. Alternatively as a snack (my mom serves this a lot): olives (black/green) with cheese and pineapple cubes served together on a toothpick.

I guess my question would be, what kind of olove have you tried? I'm personally a huge fan of certain kinds of olives, but there are certain kinds that I don't really care for. for instnce, I don't really get excited about those black ones that come in a can. I swear I can taste the metal from the can when I eat them. As a kid, I used to actually like them, but now I prefer the kinds that you can get in jars or at my local Italian deli. I think the olive oil cured black olives might be my favorite, and kalamata and spanish green olives run a close second. When I went to spain, I ate so many of the green olives there because they would add a little lemon to them. It was great. My advice would be to either go to a whole foods store or really any grocery that allows you to buy olives by the pound. At the Italian grocery I go to, they sell them from big tubs and they will actually let you taste them before you buy them. If tasting beforehand isn't an option, I would just buy a tiny bit of a few kinds that interest you and see if there are certain kinds you like more. When serving olives, I will often make olive spread. Take some kalamata pitted olives and just put them in a food processor with some parsley, garlic, and olive oil to taste. It makes a nice little spread that is really great on crusty toast.

I'm such a tool. I love black pitted olives but hate the green ones. Anyway, I like to stick one black olive one each finger and then suck them off one after another and eat all 5 at the same time HAHA. My best friend and I have been doing that since we were in middle school. Granted I would never do something that vulgar in public loll.

Olives marinated - olives marinated
Yes I do not like them a lot but I must admit that I do eat olives sometimes especially on pizzas or marinated in something nice. They do taste better the way I make them.

I utterly despise olives. I haven't tried the green kind of olives yet, but I doubt I ever will. My grandfather gave me $5.00 to eat a black olive one time and it was so nasty that I threw up. I haven't tried one since.

I'm not sure about those recipes because I'm not a fan of olives by themselves or as the main ingredient in recipes but I do like them as a side ingredient because they do add good flavor to certain dishes. There are the dishes I like most with olives in them. I'm not sure what you can or can't eat on your WOE but you can always tweak them to meet your needs. Leave them whole and add to Potato Salad. I make potato salad with diced celery, radishes, onions. Add in mayo, mustard and pickle relish. Season with salt & pepper. Dump in the olives and mix. Let sit overnight for the best flavor! Very delicious. Dice them up and add to Macaroni Salad. I make macaroni salad with diced celery, onions, radishes, carrots, bellpeppers, olives, cheese cubes. Add in mayo and mustard. Season with salt & pepper and mix. This also taste best when it's sat overnight. I use whole olives in my Italian Pasta Salad. Cook up some multi-colored corkscrew pasta (drain and cool). Then add in olives, tomatoes, cucumber, bell pepper, red onions. Use a bottle of Zesty Italian Dressing and mix all together. Add in some Salad Seasoning Mix (you can find it by the spices) to taste. Let sit for a few hours to get the best flavor. Olives are great as a topping on pizza's as well. That's all I can think of. I'm sure you could use vegan cheese instead of regular cheese in the macaroni salad. You could also omit the eggs in the potato salad. Not sure if you can eat mayo or not (sorry I'm really ignorant about vegan meals). Good luck!

I love olives myself, but that recipe for olives and potatoes looked like nothing I would want to try! It doesn't seem to 'go' together. I agree that olives are kind of a love/hate thing. They are strong in flavor, so if you don't like them it's hard to disguise them in a dish... I like them in pasta... maybe with some sun-dried tomato, basil, and olive oil. That sounds delicious to me!

Several of my friends like olives, but I will only have them if I have nothing else to eat ,lol.I don't know if others have tasted the same olives , but I find their taste bitter. The only thing I like about the olives is their green colour and that the name has a very romantic feel to it ,lol.

I think olives are a thing you either like or don't! They have a very unique taste and no matter what they are in you can still taste them! I personally despise them! If you come across a recipy that is any good you must highlight it for us so that I can try it as my family like olives and I try to avoid buying them!

I like olives. In Portugal there are a lot of types of olives. And they make a good olives oil too. But I heard that olives make bad for Hemorrhoids. I don't know if this is true but I eat them anyway. And nice recipes you gave!
