Why do you read?

I read because I love being transported to another world, a world where my problems no longer exist. It's like becoming a whole other person, taking on their problems. When I'm in the middle of a good book, it often becomes all I can think about, and I can't wait until I can start reading it again. So why do you read? If you don't like to read, why not?

I read for various reasons...I like to read as a little "getaway" like you mentioned (somewht like that)...I love to read to learn about new things, research things I'm curious about (various religions) or to educate myself on things that directly have to do with my life (such as my specific mental disorders)....I've always been a hardcore reader...wouldnt have it any other way..

that's true. I also like to read to learn things, to explore new cultures. There's so much to reading, I just never really understand why people don't like it.

I love reading because I enjoy the feeling that somehow the words caress my brain and each sentence hugs every fold of my medulla oblangata! LOL. No. I Enjoy reading because, like you, I am transported to different places and know different people and beings who otherwise I wouldn't have know if not for reading!

I read b'cos its almost like making friends everytime u read a book specially a novel its like meeting a new set of people well written books give u so much background knowlegde of a character or place its almost like u met the person and been to the place. Books also transport u into a world of your own. Most of the times i imagine myself where iam the friend of the main character!! so i know what is happening in their life

I read because I have a REALLY big imagination and when I read something I can see it like Im watching tv. And books are always better than movies so, when I read it is like seeing an AMAZING movie lol. Plus its healthier than actually watching tv, so thats always good.

I know what you mean. I hate watching a movie based on a book, and then, every time I go to read the book, all I can see in my mind are the characters from the movie. So many times what goes on in my mind is so much better than what happens in the movies.

I read to spill out my stress. Read to break the routine in my life.. or work stress. Reading help me vent out my stress. I pik up a good humour book or sometimes a comic would do.. calvin hobbes or garfield.. would do. reading is good.

I read because I want to be informed. And as far as the Holy Bible is concerned, I read to know the truth. If we just listen, we won't know if what people are saying are true or not. It's nice to listen, but we have to check that with the source if what is being said are correct or not.

I love reading!! It takes my mind of things that are going on in my life-it is a great way for me to relax! NAd it is just fun to pretend you are in other situations and wonder what you would do.

From about third grade through senior year of high school I hated reading. I would read a ton in the summer, though, and it was mostly just because it was something to do. That's still the case now, since I still have as few friends as I did then, and I still like to have my curl-up down time. I love to read now.. I always have at least one book going, usually two (one for home, one for work). I read because I'm bored, I read because I want to take a bath (or I take a bath because I want to read... who knows), I read because I'm tired of sewing, I read because I started a book I can't put down, I read to learn, I read to ignore the world around me. I recently realized why I hated reading as a kid. I am, and always have been, a slow reader. I attribute it a bit to ADD, and maybe a slight undiagnosed learning disability. I had teachers try to get to the bottom of my poor reading, but none ever went deeper than the surface. I now know that I thought I hated reading because I couldn't read fast enough to absorb the assigned reading in time for class. Now that I no longer have deadlines, I can't stop reading! Granted, I'm always reading because it takes me forever to finish a book : )

A passion for something cannot be described in few pages, reading is my passion. If someone insist me to resonify my reading habits then i would say it gives me mental peace , the most important reason of them all, furthermore it give me knowledge about this world as well as the world beyond our normal vision, thats why i read.
