How to be a Star 10 in myLot ?

Singapore
March 23, 2007 3:19am CST
I am relatively new here and I am naturally curious how members are awarded a Star 10. So, in my quest for a Star 10, I will really appreciate those who had already achieved that to advise me or give me tips so that I can learn and apply the strategies or techniques to become a better member here. Your feedback will also help other readers too.

The number inside the star is your reputation percentage. The parameters which control this number are so many. Out of this one factor is very much sensitive because any user if marks you with a negative rating to your discussion or a response or the comment added make s negative impact on your reputation percentage. Users here are even using this tool as a weapon to kill your pride of being 10 as well. This number is not that important from your good or bad user point of view. So please don't pay your attention to this reputation too much, otherwise you would go in depression. As such your sober/gentle/quality writing/soft language/no harsh words which won't hurt anybody/don't lit fires in the discussions would confer you this "10" medal. Which is useless I think. Just try to enjoy yourself in discussions and get the pleasure through your mylot working. All the best from oarnamav.

Thanks for the response and a best mark to me! When there are only 2 or 3 negative ratings you get out of 100 you recieve in various can keep you at 96% that is "10" in the star. I wish you would forget this star business. Leave that chair of perfection to God! All the best from oarnamav.

Thanks for your explanations. If all or most of the members don't rate our responses, would we get a low star rating ?

You just have to keep posting, posting, posting, quality, original discussions which are of interest to people all over the World, and quality, descriptive responses to other people's discussions. Be polite, make friends and support them. They, in return will support your discussions and you'll rise in the rating stakes. Good luck to you and Brightest Blessings.

There seem to be hard and fast rules. However, experience as helped me to achieve a Star 10 almost from when I reached 100 posts. Start quality discussions. No one liner discussions. No superficial topics such as " I have reached 500, or it's my birthday". Include links and photos if you can. Give good responses with some thought to them, not just I agree, or yes. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your excellent tips. I had read through some of your postings and I have no doubts that you are one of the best myLotians. Indeed you have very high quality discussions. I hope I can achieve your standard i.e. a Star 10 when I reach 100 posts.

Everyone has already given you such great advice and tips - I'm not sure what else I could add. So I'll just say: Keep up the good work. Keep posting quality discussions and responses .. before you know it you'll be at 100 postings and have a nice pretty star to go along with it too!

First, I assume you are aware that your star will be shown once you hit 100 posts. The rating in your star is based largely on the ratings you get from other members. In the myLot FAQ, a brief description of the Discussion Rating System (DRS) is given. See http://www.mylot.com/o/faq.aspx#DRS for more details. There is no way of knowing if someone awards you with a "+" or slaps you with a "-". So you can only continue posting in good faith and try to churn out quality posts. I know it would help your ratings if you have active friends. Normally when we see friends whose ratings have dropped, we would try to help one another out by giving all the pluses - so he will climb back to 10 in a day or 2. ;-)

Yes, I am aware about the 100 posts. On the other hand, if we let others know how we rate them by saying they have a "+" from us, will myLot penalise us ? It's re-assuring to have a friend who helps by giving "+".

I know people who explicitly mention it - but who is to know how true? lol :P I can also say I gave you a plus, when I really gave you a minus. So it is down to mutual trust again. I don't think you will be penalised.. but try not to do it too often. I guess if you do it once in a while, it is ok. I'm gonna give you a plus now. Believe me? :P

I find that those who have ten post good discussion and few of the superficial ones. I do not know if posting a plus or a minus on the other posts will help or harm you. Frankly I cannot see posting a plus on a response that has nothing to do with the subject or is extremely rude and insulting. For that reason, I would rather give the pluses to the majority here who are good members. I do not worry about the star since I do not want to give responses out of fear. So do not worry. If you post more than three sentences in your post, you will do fine.

I agree with you that those who have a 10 in their stars tend to post good or quality discussions or responses. Usually, for those who respond sensibly, I will rate them positive. Thanks for your comments and participations in all my discussions :-))

i don't think that you have somthing to worry about i have a feeling you will start with a 9 or 10 star cause i saw your posts and they are definitly quality posts i think that you always need to pay attention to quality posting, responding your posts, and comments on the other posts. this way everyone will be pleased and that includes you:)and will rate you "+"

I worry because so far I received only 1 Best Response. I wonder whether the number of Best Responses affect the Star Rating. Thanks for your feedback.
