Spammers... ugh!

At least once a week, and sometimes quite a bit more than that, I get someone who becomes my friend here on myLot just so they can send me spam messages. Of course, as soon as I see what they're doing, I go delete them, but it's still pretty frustrating. I wish there was a [!] button on messages so we could report these types of people. Anyone else agree?

I agree with you completely. I tend to accept any friend request I get, because I figure hey, this place is all about meeting people, so why not. But lately it seems like at least half of everyone requesting, that is their sole purpose. It is frustrating, and I think you are right, an option to report messages would certainly help cut down on this kind of thing.

I do agree with you. I hate spammers whether they be here on mylot or just my personal email. It gets bad when most of your messages from friends become spam. I do wish they would give us a way to report them for the abuse.

It doesn't happen to me but I agree with you. I think you have to report this users to teh staff. We receive enough spam in our email to spend time also here deleting spamming messages. Maybe you can also post to these users about that!

Yeah, I've tried just telling them not to do that -- most of them get all offended and say they were just trying to do me a favor. Riiiiight... like I believe that. They don't even know me. Most of them have never posted on my discussions or anything. They aren't doing me a favor -- they're trying to do themselves a favor by getting more referrals.

I'm 100% with you there, bungirl. I can't count on my fingers just how many times I have denied those spammers. It doesn't take a genius to know they are spamming. It doesn't mean we're being too choosy about who we wish to accept as our friends. But my goodness, I don't have the time and patience to deal with spammers.

I completely agree with you BunGirl. I totally don't like spammers. Working in the computer field I have to deal with a lot of damage caused by mass spammers. They just simply suck! I also agree a button to report spam messages is a great idea, they should have thought of that from the start. It's just ashame spammers want to try and flood a good site with trash :(

Could you tell me what happens when you get a spam message. How do you know? I have never received one. Thanks

I get this a lot too, but I just delete it and never reply. I think it is usually young people who really don't understand what this place is all about. I have not been sent anything worth joining anyway. I don't mind getting the messages so much because I can delete them and I go on or I can reply and let them know I am not interested in joining any other new programs. I am wary when a brand new person request me to be their friend, I think great they want me to join something, but most of the time this is not the case. Some of them are really wanting to join so they can have me respond to their discussions. So until MyLot changes things I will just be deleting these messages.

I have been lucky so far. I don't think I have had any spammers but I have noticed a few that have added me as a friend and then disappeared which I thought was really strange. I have also noticed that I get spam in my email that sounds like it may be a connection with mylot. For instance the sender has a similar name to one of my friends on mylot or concerning a topic I've responded to here and its just spam. It almost seems like they may have attached some sort of spyware. Is that possible?

As far as I know, there's no way for folks to get your email address through myLot unless you've given it out in a discussion or on your profile or whatever.

That is awful when people do that. I hate nothing more then spam mail. And for someone to come off like they want to be your friend, and then throw spam, is really a rotten thing to do. I agree that we need more features for the report someone. They need to kicked out. This isn't what this website is for.
