How to create a bootable cd?

can anyone tell me how to create a bootable cd...(u know..the one when u put the cd in and u restart...then u can repair, reformat..partition..) i have a windows xp cd (can reboot when i restart) and i have copied the content of the cd..after then, i put in a blank cd and start burning under data cd...(nero startsmart)..it did not reboot when i restart...??!!....is there more steps i need to do??

Windows doesn't like to be copied - something to do with piracy I think. Don't know why. The CD needs to be formatted with a boot sector and Windows system files need to be loaded into it. Also, to boot from a CD you need to adjust your BIOS so that it's boot sequence is to look to boot from a CD before a hard drive.

it is different with different operating systems as well.

use the help and you will find it for the operating system you are using if it is microsoft.
