I have trouble sleeping and I've finally decided that I can't deal with it anymore. I've decided to take sleeping pills so that I can go to sleep when I want to. Have any of you used sleeping pills? Do you believe that they are helpful or harmful? Do you think that they are addictive?

I had lots of trouble falling asleep when I was younger, now I have trouble staying asleep. My doctor recommends Benedryl rather than sleeping pills, they have a seditive affect but are not addictive.

I might have to try that if the pills don't work for me, but when I've tried it before they made it really hard to wake up.

I have never used sleeping pills.I think they are harmful and addictive.I think they are not good for health. You must consult a doctor.I can tell you some natural remedies for sleep.Try some pranayamas ever day.Everynight before sleep have a glass of warm milk and add in it one tablespoon of honey.I think it will help you.

Thanks for your opinion and that may be true for some people, but when nothing else is working I feel like I have to take this course of action. I really don't think warm milk and honey would help both would just hurt my stomach.

I dont think sleeping pills are bad if taken as suggested. I have had problems falling asleep for the last month. I havent taken anything because I too was afraid of becoming addicted, ect.. You should try to do things like exercize during the day, get up early so you'll be more likely to fall asleep at a normal time, ect. I just tried Tylenol PM's new sleeping pill - it felt wonderful to sleep!

Yeah I thought I would try exercise and getting up early but they don't help because I'm too tired to do either. Maybe after I can get sleep normally than I can use something other than pills.

I do not like to take sleeping pill, I do not have problem with sleeping and doze off within 1 minute after geting onto the bed. Recently, my doctor adviced me to take the sleeping pills to help me to relax my muscle as I had a viral infection, and I took one out of the twenty pill given, I have a tough day trying to stay awake and it was a "painful" day, I could not work at all and nearly fallen asleep while driving. I will not take any sleeping pill from now on.

At times when work was bothering me a lot, I have taken sleeping pills. I've tried an Equate sleeping pill, and Tylenol PM. I don't want to start depending on them, so I don't take them very often. I don't know if they are addictive or not. I haven't taken enough to find out.
