I've never had any rats but my brother has one and he's such a sweetie! I hold him all the time. He's extremely smart too.

yeah! They are definitally smart. All of mine get so excited when they know its time to take them out, and the lick my hands and hop all over the place and when I kiss them they lick my lip! LOL! They really are affectionate. A lot of people say oh they just lick you because of the salt on your hands but thats not true, because rats dont really like salt. I got them a salt wheel before, and they hated it!

I can't say that Iggy ever licked me, but I bet they give sweet little kisses.

oh yes they do! The first rat I ever got was a rat who my friend bought to feed to her snake. The snake never ate her so I took her! Her name is Lucky now, hehe...and she gives me many kisses!!

I ADORE rats as pets! I currently, only have one as she's quite aged and has been showing the first signs of an ear infection, so I don't want to try and get cagemates for her...I am speaking with a local fancy rat breeder though, as I am DYING to have Siamese Dumbo rattlets...My FAV breed for sure....My first ratties were the most affectionate ones, they use to sleep on my head while I watched TV and would lick at my lips if they smelled food, and I could even trust them enough to let them loose in my room (only in my room) for a couple of hours if we went grocery shopping, etc. I love ratties, and plan to have them for life..I realllly want to get a huge Martin's Cage to have a few ratties in a massive, fun cage....but they are sooooooooo exepensive to ship to Ontario...

I have raised white mice (which come in different colours) and hamsters. I have never been fond of rats but I understand why you feel the way you do.

Oh goodness, 11 rats? How do you find time for them all? My three boys can't get enough playtime and attention, we hang out with them for a few hours most days. They are like dogs. Sometimes they want to play, other times they will happily cuddle up to me when I watch a movie. And when I'm eating, they'll go to great lengths to get some too...
