Fishing on a commerical scale has developed in coastal regions in middle latitudes. Mechanised boats and trawlers are used to catch fish. Large ships serve as floating factoreis which process the catch and pack them in tins. Refrigerated holds in ships enable export of fish to many parts of the world. Japan, United States, Baltic states, Russia, United Kingdom and Norway have developed commerical fishing on a large scale.
