Do you think it's safe to shop online?

What do you think? Is it safe? When you give out sensitive information when you shop online? Are you sure that you did not enter a phishing site that might sell out your personal information? Are you confident enough to give out your credit card number, address, etc.?

i think shopping online is very easy and very practical we don't have to waste our time to go out and look for the item we need but since i live in a country with a high rate of deception it's very very risky to shop online hehehee ..

It's a good practice to be familiar with the name or reputation of any company you're dealing with. You can often find helpful information about online companies from Internet news sources, directories, and rating services. The Federal Trade Commission maintains a web site (www.consumer.gov) that provides many buyer's guides, lists of tips, and links to helpful resources. (Keep in mind that Yahoo! recommends to all merchants within Yahoo! Shopping that they post relevant information about themselves and their business on an "Information" page. Yahoo! Shopping also provides a rating system, whereby customers are able to evaluate merchants.

I don't think any harm in shopping online. But you should check the security sign on the site.

Personally I don't shop online, and am not comfortable with giving personal information over the web. However, I feel it should be safe to shop online if you shop from an established vendor and are at a secured site. Another thing to watch out for will be the VeriSign Secured Seal trust mark.

I think so but it would depend also on both parties.. If you're a buyer then you should check the reputation of the seller in order to gain trust, I've read that there are ways to know if the person selling is a scammer or not. One reason also that I usually would want to do my business through gcash is because I only give my cellphone numbers to the buyers, I don't allow credit cards at all. It's much more safer than giving someone a very important information.. Before I joined anything I usually check it first if it's a very reputable site, if it is then no problem.. I don't give out that much info also..

If shopping online is not safe now, when will it be safe? You can be rest assured that the online safety issues are always on the top list of any payment processor or gateways. If it is not safe, then, there would not be any online stores in the web at all, right?

Not as safe as your thinking....Like everyone says before you do something think it twice, trice or more than times. It might even put you on harm so better not to give important details on your behalf.....

I don't know if it is safe to buy online either. I wanted to buy an item online but I'm so scared because I might get scammed or something. is there anyone who actually bought and item online like the ones from ebay or something? I want to know if it is safe too.

Shopping online isn't as dangerous as some people make it out to be. First keep your password secure, and of course never give it out. Next check to make sure they use the latest 128 bit encyption for order forms on a site that you want to purchase from. Also always check site certificates to make sure they are valid and trusted sites. Also make sure the certificate haven't expired or anything out of the ordinary. All you have to do is take a few very basic steps that are also common sense and then you'll be pretty safe. Also if you feel bad about providing your credit card number online to buy something then look for a site that accepts egold or Paypal.
