I hear on the news about so many home invasions, does anyone have a "Safe Room" in their homes where you can lock you and your family into so no one can get to you? If you do, what do you have in there; a cell phone, water, food, candles, first aid kit?

Here in Israel it's a must to have a "Safe Room" in every house. My room is a "Safe Room", and I have a computer, and every thing that a teenager has. This room has protected our family in the last was that was going on here.

I don't think there has been much of a threat there in India, at least South India, I am living in a place which is a Peninsula so there is no way someone can attack but this is a good idea to have. I would definitely have what all you have told there and some means of entertainment as well, maybe PC with internet, TV etc.

You know,I have always thought of a safe room which would be the master suite as it has a lock on the door but I never thought to have provisions in there.....you never know what's going through a person's head these days or how they will react.....thanks for putting this VERY important thought into my 'tiny' brain.....

So what are saying howard??? do you know something we don't know??? Do we need a safe room, like soon, are we being invaded, is war breaking out????? OMG I don't even have a basement!! I suppose I could rip up the floorboards in the front room and start digging, mind you I think the local council might get a bit annoyed about it, but ofcourse all the local council have got their own bunkers to hide in if needed so no doubt they have safe rooms as well. Luckily my house is not likely to be 'invaded', the local punks know that me and my kids are nutters so they wouldn't dare come to my house!!

The way things are going, you just never know. If I had my own home I would set up a safe room. Too many crazies out there.

Like many ppl, I don't have a safe room either. I have taken my daughter into our crawlspace once thou cause I spotted a tornado forming in the sky. Had my cell phone with me and was calling e1 I had numbers to to tell them about it as well as the local police. Thankfully, It didn't touch down in my area but did create a mess with fallen trees/branches.

It's good everything worked out. Weren't you afraid that maybe you both wouldn't be able to get out of the crawlspace if the tornado had hit?

They are becoming a real selling point for existing homes as well as new housing construction... It's sort of like the Fallout Shelters that home owners built back in the '50's and 60's... Part of my business involves custom homes ( Bullet-Proof, Wind and Storm proof, Fireproof) and I hear that the subject is being approached more and more often, especially for prospective urban area buyers... I suggest that a person prepare these shelters with more food and supplies and technology that they think they will need for a month or more... Since you can't be sure what kind of emergency is going to neccessite the hasty retreat into such a space... This a very good subject, I'm sorry to say, it's also a bracing commentary on these trying times...

After seeing the movie Safe Room I'm not so sure it's a great idea? LOL I am lucky enough to live in a small enough town that I feel quite safe. I should have disaster stuff available but don't. I'm one of those forever procrastinating people! What can I say?

It's ashame that our society has gotten to the point where you might need a "safe room" against home invasions. I first heard of a safe room reading a article about Michael Jackson. He apparently had one in his house in California and did have to use it. I forgot the actual details, but that's where I first heard of it. I don't have a safe room and hopefully I won't need one. No I don't have a safe room. But I think it's a good idea. Did you see that movie with Jodie Foster? I think it was called the Panic Room or something like that.
