Some people start working at an early age due to poverty or their parents cannot support them due to financial difficulties. There are some who are lucky enough to get an education or finish a degree before they start working. I was 22 when I started working. I took a 4-5 year degree course, took a review class for the licensure exam, wait for the result of the examination. I scouted for companies and applied for job, took exams and interviews. The work I have til now is still the work/job that I applied after my graduation and licensure exam. I am working in the same company for almost 25 years now. I like my job because the work I have is really related to the degree/course that I earned. The compensation is not that much big, but i enjoy my work and i like the company and camaraderie that i built with my officemates for such a long time What about you, what age did you start working? Did you find difficulty finding fo a job. What is your story?

Originally I got my first job at 11. It was a paper route and required about 3 hours daily to complete. I worked this, and was gratefull to have a bit of money to spend, because my parents did not give me money (as most children these days) have done to them. I worked the route and even picked up a second until I was 15, at which time I began regualar work as a dishwasher. This lasted until about 17 when I tried my hand at various other jobs until I hit college. During college I flipped pizzas to make ends meet. After college I joined the Navy. So to answer your question directly, I began working at 11 and have been working ever since...and I am 37 this year. I think every child should have a job of some sort. It is instrumental in teaching various things, not the least of which is the value of hard work and how to respect the value of the dollar. If you are a teenager, being handed $20 at a time by your parents, I feel that you do not have the proper respect of having to earn that money before you go blow it on something. cheers.

Wow! Started working at age 11... Well I know there are kids who work at very very young age...those who are in show business or commercial models ... 1 year old to 10 years old. Although you are correct in saying that working at a young age teaches the kids the value of hard work and money.... but aren't these young kids who are already working being deprived of their childhood?

I started my first work and earning from the age of 23/24 and for the past 27 yrs I'm in the same job. I had to complete my graduation, then had to finish another 3 yrs in obtaining the professional degree. Had to wait another 5/6 month for the affiliation and thereafter I was given Green Signal to work. I love my profession very much. I'm a lawyer. My library is my place for solace. I find my eternal peace here. May be my love for my profession has emanated from the great minds and teachers, I was fortunate enough to get their comapny and teachings. My teachers at the Law School had done a splendid job on me and transformed me totally. My profession has given me a lot of things, apart from the financial returns. I also love teaching and had my stints with the Law School where I was a student.

I started working at 16 full time. I was a flagperson (traffic controller) I really liked my job except the extreme weather. By the time I was 18 I was a senor flagger and job site safety supervisor, I had my industrial first aid by 19 and was making great money. I went to night school to finish high school and when I was 22 I was laid off for the winter like every winter and decided to go to college when I got my diploma in Business Management. Then it was off to the office for 6 months and I hated it so I went into home care and took care of terminally ill patients that wanted to be home to pass away. I did that for 3 years until I became a mom and now I work full time at home for my family.

I started working at the age of 15. I was still in high school and I was offered a part-time job by a dance studio where I was also a student. The job paid for my classes, plus gave me some extra money for spending. I think I made the minimum wage at the time which was around $3.00 per hour...so I wasn't getting rich by any means. But, I was a high school student and the money helped pay for all of those things that I needed then.

I was fifteen and worked for the City of New York Summer Jobs program helping out little kids at a church; I liked it, but looking back, I really enjoyed the job, I loved going, and I only wished that I did things differently then to shape me for today, like saving and working on more.

I was 20 I think, I had just gotten my degree in Biology. I moved to Boston to work on my Master's Degree and to be my sister's roommate cuz she had just had a divorce. I worked 25 hours a week, 9 on Saturday, 10 on Sunday, 6 on Friday ..........at Gnoman Copy.......It was hard work and I earned $3.25 an hour to start....$6 an hour 3 years later when I left. I spent like 2 hours getting that job, looked in the paper, called, went there , and they hired me, I really didn't want to look for another job since I hated doing that so I stayed. 3 1/2 years It was a good life though. I paid $100 a month rent. Did school, Had fun. etc.

I couldn't wait to leave school to earn a wage, I hated school and hardly learnt a thing. As soon as I was 16 I left, I started in a training scheme but got paid for it, when I reached 18 I was a secretary in a small company and earning a decent wage. The company was local so I was able to save up money not used for travelling and living at home to buy myself a flat and move out! I am extremely independent and hate relying on others.

I started working when I was sixteen. Due to circumstances I moved out of my grandparent's house and moved in with some friends. I worked at a cafe at a sports center to put myself through my last two years of high school. It was hard in a lot of ways, but it has really paved my work ethic and how I approach work now. I now run my own business and really enjoy my work which I am really grateful for.

work - looking for a job
I start my to get a real job soon as I graduated from high school.....and at the same time I also start my university education. I applied for a job not because my parents can't support me, I just want have ahead start. That way when I got my university degree my CV isn't really a clean blank sheet. And so far I'm pretty fortunate to have many different chance to work for things that I enjoy doing. Most of them has nothing to do with my education but it has alot to do with my life path as they all connected to each other. So...I'm pretty fortunate...

I had a lot of small, part time jobs, when I was a teenager--babysitting, working fast food, etc. But pretty much until I was 21, my parents were basically supporting me. I didn't have to make enough money to get by on my own until after I graduated from college.

I started work at 15. My mom always bought me a lot of clothes for starting school but nothing in it was name brand. I wanted nike tennis shoes and a few pair of name brand clothes.I did not want things that i would never wear, old ladies pull on pants..I wanted jeans. So I ask my aunt to get me a job with her at a local dairy bar. My mom and dad only let me work on the weekends during school. In summer I could work as much as I wanted and I did. I bought my own school clothes and other stuff from that day on. Luckly it is just a school time job. I did have some fun there but the wages for school students was awful. I could not wait to get antoher job. I liked my own money and never wanted to be without it again..

I started working as soon as I was 16. My parents didn't have alot of money and the job helped out alot. I worked for Denny's restaraunts for 8 years. I moved up into management when I was 19, and I have always been able to find a job with my restaraunt background. Restaraunts don't pay much, but it is an extra income and they are usually great about working around school schedules and such. Sometimes I wish I would have gone to college, but with my dad sick and the finacial position my family was in, I don't regret the decisions I've made.

I started working when I was about 16 or 17 years old. I was just starting college and I applied for a college scholarship which required me to work about 4 hours per day in any of the college departments and offices in the university. Luckily I got the scholarship grant and also got accepted in the University Library where they allow me to work beyond the 4 hour requirement of my scholarship and pay me for the extra hours. Now after five years, I have finally graduated and it really feels good to know that all my hard work has finally paid off. I have now my degree and look forward to finding a career that suits me and really pays well...

I was in a program in New york and I took a summer job doing a daycare for little kids in a catholic church. It was cool;I would get paid every couple of weeks and have to give my mom some of the money;
