Procrastination is Our Friend, and Mylot helps us do it- or me anyway (lol)

Needless to say this is like hanging out with a friendly neighbor without having her drink up all my coffee (hiss). and I have an excuse when, at the end of the day, the dishes aren't done- I was trying to earn a little extra money to help out. Its hard work. Look at my worn out fingers! Its treated as a joke around here, but its the sorry truth about me, I am a procastinating fool. I used to make lists. That was always good for at least anhour to start my day. Now I have lists of friends whose writings I owe it to them to read at least- so well, that's my current excuse. Do you procrsastinate? why do we even have a word for it? We all do it. Its even a big word-as if we never had occassion to use it. Ha!Well, I've exceeded my time on Mylot for today and show nosigns of leaving it. I need help. (from Mylot friends of course.)

oh lol. I thought i was the only one who had started using mylot as an excuse for doing nothing lol. Many times ill get in to conversation and that is the last my family see of me for the day. My husband says I have a unique ability to isolate myself in mylot and that i will miss world war 3 by playing here, but what do men know? from a completely unreformed mylot addict blessed be

Now see, I can tell I have my work cut out for me. this is not Doing Nothing. No- this is advancing the state of mankind. Yes, we are cultivating and aiding one another in our quest for truth, light and winning lottery numbers- this is not "nothing". Ohh Eskarena, (shaking head slowly) you have contributed such a generous and abundant thought and feeling to this site- which is true although I was kidding about the rest- Its not nothing. I go around with small talk filling my ears until its filling my thoughts, gracious and platitudinous gab all day at work, and while its kindly I suppose, its so bland on the surface-like looking at a pond, stocked for fishing, but nary a ripple. When there's the ocean roaring in and seething away- like us. You hang in girl, you're doing us all good.:D

I develop anxiety if I procrastinate. I just don't understand how some people will procrastinate. If I have to do something I want to do it right away and cannot rest until it is done.

Oh my! I absolutely loved it! You put it in perfect words of how my days go. When I am asked why I didn't get something done, I use the excuse that I took care of a few other things and that I barely got anything done on myLot. And each day that my partner is off of work and keeps me away from myLot, I am telling him that I haven't done anything to earn here. If he tries to use the word "playing" on myLot...I express my feeling of carpal tunnel syndrome as not playing. LOL With the exception of the dogs dancing needing to go outside, I hate being torn away from my laptop! Oh wait...shoot, one actually poo'd on the floor the other day because I got too caught up in myLot. But I promised the dogs that would never happen again! ha ha And the coffee...I don't wanna share either! :) So how about we both sit here reading and writing while drinking our own coffee enjoying the procrastination. Wow! That is a long word! LOL

Its the coffee, Tia, its not Mylot that's messing us up, its the coffee. If we weren't reading and writing we'd have caffeine jitters and so to 1)extract the value of coffee and 2)not extract the harmful nervousness- we must 3) devote time to Mylot commensurate with the quality of our brew. PS a very brillliant researcher on the history of the Old Craft said that originally the pointy black hat was a symbol for brewers, as was the broom and cauldron- and here we are, a certain few of us with our coffee and our lingering andhmmour spells. WEll well well, some things never change.

I don't see anything wrong with being here, as you say you are earning money and that is always a great way of getting out of doing housework. Lists can be great if you actually do the things on them and tick them off when you do. What I do if I have to get on with jobs during the day that I seem to be putting off is actually put a time to when I will do it. So rather than thinking at some point today I have to wash up etc I will say for example at 2.pm I will come off the computer and do my housework until 3pm. I usually get finished much quicker and it stops you thinking all the time that you have to do something as you have put a time to when it will get done.

OMG You are brilliant. I never thought of that. the only appointments I keep are 1)go to work and 2)come home. I actually intend to try your method. On Monday. :D

definitely your not the only one infected by this word.i my self is a major procrastinator.when i wake up i have all this things in to do running in my mind and like you i even make a list that i post. but when i get started on the tv, my gosh forget the list! i always find a reason to delay doing the things that i have to. i always have that 5 minute grace period and then i realized i ran out of time already. procrastination is really a problem. it always leaves me cramming and so i end up getting the work done but not as good as when i really prepared for it. we really have to be stronger now. it's good that your setting a time limit with your my lot time. i think it's a great idea. all we have to do is be focused. prioritize things and stick to the list! we have to think of the importance and the urgency of the things we do. we can fight procrastination. all we need is focuse, discipline and time management.

You are right of course. In fact as soon as I get to the store to buy some printer ink, I'm going to print your response and put it on my bulletin board, as soon as I find it(the board). Because you are absolutely right. This is an important thing to do.

I don't really procrastinate. Usually I can finish things when I set my mind to it. However, if I have something large to work on, I usually do most of it near the end of the time I want it done. If you can't get off myLot, maybe you could try disconnecting your internet. Although it may sound a little crazy, that will get you off the internet at least for sure.

well, luckily, it is not for me... i am not procrastinating here... :-) i try to impose a very tight self-discipline on myself about how much time i will spend in here daily... i don't want myself to get addicted to this site and neglect all the other things that i suppose to be doing... so far, i succedded very well in doing that... :-)

I kept coming back to your response to laugh, aren't we dsigraceful. Okay-update- we are not disgraceful, our work here is clearly unappreciated by the minions we allow into our lives. Its on them. And if we race about putting matters in order as they come into the house- we are simply giving them a festure of welcome and attention that they understand, and giving the "work" the time and attention it really deserves (next to none.)

Amen to that! Ever since I started MyLot my cleaning duties have been oh sooo neglected. Although I do get them done after my husband gets home. He laughs at me fore being on this thing all day. I try and explain that at least I'm trying to make some extra cash. He lets it slide but knows I'll get the work done sooner or later. I can't stand a messy house. I am definitely a procrastinater!

Ditto, and speaking of dittos- take note of emjay9's comments and plan to do like I plan to do. Make a note of it. I think we are also contributing to science here- I think I've developed a new species of cobweb. In fact I yes, I have. this is different.I think scientists will now be able to categorize cobwebs- and it is all thanks to us. Look around, I'll bet you have at least one. See-I was right. We are making so many valuable contributions to the world, its jut its just- oh I'll get back to that later-there's a word I'm sure..,

I only procrastinate with things I don't really enjoy doing like housework and exercise. Right now I should be working out, but instead I'm posting on MyLot. It's rather addicting, unlike exercise.

You have to ask yourself this question- since clearly you've already ansered it- what's more important, your mind or your thighs? Your mind, right, so here you are exercising. Oh, and your fingers. Fingers are one of the first parts of the body to develope after the brain in a a foetus. Thighs and calves and all that come way later. Nature is telling you that mind and fingers matter, the rest- of no real consequence. So you definitely have your priorities well in order.
