I am wondering what happens when one reaches the lowest number. I see some which have one's and two's. I think If I saw my own ratings starting to go down (especially that low) I would try do do something to stop it from dropping. Do people get their accounts deleted when they finally hit the rock bottom?

Well I think I may be living proof of what happens when you dissagree. As I think I am about to hit a 1 soon. I dont think I give crappy answers in fact I usual give long winded ones as I enjoy typing and I try to give my opinions with an example. What drew me to this site was I seen some things about politics and religion that really bothered me. Of coure these are two subjects which I am pretty hot headed about as are most people. But obviously there are people that if you dissagree they will give you a negative rating. The funny thing was I am not even dissagreeing with what they say most of the time but questioning why they fell the need to be so harsh about there fellow man. So I guess thats there way of punishing people who reply to there threads that they dont want there since they cannot block them.

Wow see how people can be? Thanks evanhunter! I know it makes you not want to reply to certain ones or even start a discussion!

This is a shame, if you want to keep a high star rating you have to keep your mouth shut and be very sweet to people, if you voice your opinion and someone doesn't like what you say, then they hit the negative button probably on every post you've ever made on mylot and they bring you down. This is not fair, this is not how the system should work. People should have a right to voice their honest opinion and not be punished (by ratings) for it. I think they need to do away the the (+) and (-) ratings.

Right now that mine dropped so much over night I am beginning to wonder how fair this star rating is my self. And the proof is in the pudding right here for me. Something should be done. Thanks Howard!

Don't worry about it honey. It is a stupid thing that Mylot started about a month ago. It reflects how your fellow mylots feel about you. If you drop, that means someone gave you a - rating. Some people do it because they are jealous of your ten, they don't like your comment or agree with it. If it goes to 1, your money doesn't change. I gave you a + for this, that helps against - and keeps you up there. A minus is only suppose to be given if a person answers with a yes or no or one worder. A "best response" is really nice to get. Not sure what that does, but it feels good. So, don't worry honey. God bless you.

My number is down too. I don't really care. I have some very nice friends here, and that is all that matters. Thank you for the best response sugar, I appreciate it.

I probably shouldn't have started this discussion. I think you are right. Yesterday when I started it i was a 98/100. Today I am an 88/100! Yeh jealousy the green eyed monster! Go figure on my rating dropping over night! And by that much much! Thanks margieanneart!

I don't really worry about my star rating, it's really meaningless to me. I just keep posting the best responses I can. Most people's will go up and down because sometimes people will mark you negatively just because they don't agree with you. The ones who have 1s and 2s are usually people who paste the same response over and over, post a lot of links to other sites, spam, write unintelligible responses, or are just plain abusive. Just posting what you really think won't get you down to that level.

Yeah, usually they get banned from the site when they do too much of that.

Oh I'm not worried about mine either. It's just that I saw alot of people's stars today with low numbers in it and yes they were posting links to other sites. (when no body had asked them for links!) So that is what made me curious about whether or not they will be deleted when the hit the final coundown. So like spasticseagull suggested I won't bother responding to theirs either the discussion itself or there account will most likely be deleted.

I've seen this happrenong also. Hopefully with the new updates/changes coming this rating thing may change for the better. I don't think that mylot would delete someones account for hitting 01/100. LOL HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

Yes I can't wait to see what the new updates will be. Perhaps when someone gets a minus rating they will leave it up to mylot to decide if it should be a minus or not. Like I told margie above I dropped ^ over nite from 98 to 88/100. Must be many people didnt like this topic! O well!

When I first got my star it was a nine, but now it's gone down. It makes you kind of hestitant to respond on anything that might be considered contraversial because you don't want people giving you a negative just because they don't agree. I know they are not supposed to, but I always give complete and thought out responses, so the only reason I can see for getting a negative would be due to this.

Yes I agree with you sometimes I don't respond either because I think the person might not like what I truly have to say.

Don't worry about it dear. Those star numbers are from our memebers rating us + or -. It is such a stupid thing that MyLot has done. If you ever get down to 1, nothing happens to your accounts, nothing is deleted. Some people are jealous, and will do it just to make our numbers go down. I have rated you a ++ as always, and it goes toward your star. Have a great day sugar.

what an interesting idea? You know what? im not sure, i would imagine they just sit on a number 1 star with an ever decreasing percentage. I mean you cant get any lower than zero. Surely, sooner or later, the number will start to rise again as the percentage of plus ratings increases. I guess because our star rating is our reputation, the more active we are on the site, the more chance there is of us getting plus ratings for our responses. As far as i know, the number of plus ratings you get is what determines our star. good discussion topic blessed be

All I can think of to stop this happening, is to continue to post quality discussions. Not one liners. Also try to respond as often as possible with well thought replies. With your discussions, try to include a link and a photo.

I have seen one user that was fumbling between a 1 and a 2 and the last time i checked they now had no star. They had over 800 posts so it had nothing to do with that. I to, if saw my star falling would be questioning what i must either be doing wrong or how i might be offending people. I would do what was necessary to correct it. I'm completely honest when responding to other members posts and try to be courteous even when disagreeing. I usually state it's my opinion or mostly with that's my 2 cents, so as to try and not offend it seems to be working. I don't think that so long as people are courteous to one another most people are reasonable and understand that all have an opinion and may not agree, respect is the main thing to remember and then you shouldn't have to worry about your star or compromising your principles to respond.

I agree with howard96h above - it seems unfair to get punished for having an opinion. Just because someone has a low rating does not mean that they are writing poor posts or that they only write short posts. Some people make interesting contributions to this site but are punished for simply expressing a view. I myself have participated in and started a number of discussions about religious belief, global warming and evolution. Inevitabley there are going to be heated disagreements. Some people seem to be offended just because someone else is a muslim or an atheist and they get negative ratings accordingly. My ratings have gone down after participating in some of these disussions and I am now reluctant to participate further - I know others who are doing the same and MyLot will be worse as a result of this. What does this mean? It means that those with narrow minded, dogmatic or extreme fundamentalist views are winning.

That is why I don't respond to too many politics or religion. People have very different views on these subjects. Thanks Zmugyzy!

I am glad that you started this discussion. I think that it is helpful for everyone to remember what the + and - ratings are really to be used for. Marking someone down simply because you do not agree with their opinion is unfair and not what the rating system was designed for. I enjoy reading responses that have had some thought and effort put into them even if I do not agree with the position the other person is expressing. Thanks for an informative post!

I just joined MyLot so I'm not sure how they work when it comes to ratings dropping and eventually deleting accounts, but the experience I have with other sites is that they just live your account like that, if you do not do anything. Some give you a period of time that if nothing happens in your account say maybe for 2 months it will be automatically deleted. So its up to you. If you want to keep the account going you have to do something but if you do not need it anymore you just live as it is then automatically it will be deleted after the said period.
