Wigs and Toups

Why do people wear a hairpiece if the do not take care of it properly? I have seen some people sporting a wig or toup that looks like a pile of matted straw atop their heads. Even a wig needs proper care, same as natural hair.

Definitely, these need care like real hair, just becasue you don't sleep in them, it does not make them muss free. I was standing behind someone a few months ago who had some kind of hair implant or treatment or something done. His scapl was icky woooking and there were threads sticking out all over. If I would have watched long enough, I am sure their may have been little critters in there as well. The man went through the trouble and expense of having this done, and all I could think was - bald has to be better!

That is the 64$ dollar question. I see bad wigs and toupees all the time. Either not brushed right or not put on the head right. Jeez, why even wear the darn things if they aren't gonna take care of them.Doesn't make sense to me

Exactly. There are ways to care for them so they don't look like you took it off, tossed it in a mud puddle, stomped it dry and put it back on your head.

Pride, vanity,or self-esteem are a few reasons why people wear wigs.I decided a long time ago that this is me and I am not going to try to disguise who I am with wigs/dye or anything else.As Popeye use to say...."ise ams what Ise ams"

There is a new wig company here in the uk that fit totally undetectable wigs .. they cost pretty much the same as most professional wig makers but are so perfect you simply forget you have them on .. apparently folks swim in them, play rigorous sports and can even have salon hair styling and the staff don't know they have a wig or part wig on .. Because it's not taken off you simply wash and care for the the wig in exactly the same way you would for your own hair .. if I ever need a wig I know where I'm getting mine from !

I know what you are talking about. I have seen people with wigs that are so matted that one couldn't get a comb through them if it hairlipped the governor. Do they not realize that you can't just plop it on your head every morning and forget about it is there? It is almost like they see it as care-free hair. Wigs need to be washed, dried and styled just like hair! One's head sweats under the darn things and they do begin to stink too! YUK!!

I assume you are not talking about fanciful parties but real life situations? Might it be the style? Otherwise, I guess they are still new to wig-wearing...

No, the wigs are not kept up. They are matted and not very nice to look at.

LOL Some people do not even take care of the hair that is growing out of their heads.I am not surprised that you see hairpieces in that same shape. At least they do not get dandruff.

Good question. I guess there's no accounting for taste and these folks must truly think they look okay. For example, I saw Trump on a tv show and they out and out asked him what's with the hair. He fluffs it and says "What? I think it looks great!" LOL Now I'm sorry, but I do not know a single person that truly thinks his hair looks great! How would you like to be his hairdresser? OMG you would pay HIM not to tell people he gets his hair done by you!!!!! LOL

That is too funny! Do you remember how in the late 60's we all were wearing wiglets? We would pull back our own hair and put on the styled wiglet and voila! We all had the same hair style! LOL! Funny how things come back around.

I have seen a couple of nice ones and I have seen quite a few yukky ones that looked like birds nests. Surely when they are buying the wigs, they are given instructions on how to take care of them. I think people are supposed to buy two wigs at a time so that they can wear one while the other is being cleaned. I suppose it is all the same to some people whether they wear a wig or not. They just wouldn't take care of any kind of hair and it would make you wonder what the rest of their personal hygiene is like.

I don't know but I have seen some pretty nasty head rugs. I would think that someone would tell them.

They can be just ghastly can't they. We have an older woman in our town that wears a wig. I swear there is a bird's nest in it. Yikes! She seems to love it though! She says it helps keep her warm in winter.

I agree. I also think if you're going down the wig/toupe route you need to get a good quality one made of real hair that will actually look natural! If it looks like a wig/toupe, then you'd be better off without it (or just stick a hat on, lol!).

As long as they feel good about their attachment who are we to fuss about it. Yes it would be nice to see them well groomed. Some are just not capable. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. I wonder if there are care instructions that come with the wig or toupe' Would be a good thing if they did. I prefer it if people are just who they are and I guess some cannot accept that for themselves.

I have seen someone that had a wig on and it was not even on his head straight. And the wig looked like he did not comb it for a week.It was just a mess. I wanted to tell him but I didn't.

OH, I so know what you are talking about and it drives me insane too. I just don't know what is going through their minds when they acutaly leave the house looking as they do. Oh well. I hope that I do not make the same mistake.,

You shouldn't wake your hair everyday because it will make your hair weaker. Just wash your hair 3 or 4 times per week and don;t use too much conditioner, your hair will be smooth but after that, they will be more greasy and get knob in the day after and once per week, you should put the baby oil in your hair before you shampoo so it will make your hair stronger and more shining.
