did you crave meat? About five years ago I was pregnant, unfortunately I had a miscarraige - but that's besides the point. When I was pregnant I could smell bacon and chicken where there was none. KFC commericals made me extremely hungry. I wanted meat so badly that it hurt. I didn't give in.... but I have heard this happens sometimes. Most of us have seen Pheobe on Friends gorge herself on hamburgers after she was pregnant... Is this normal? Has anyone else gone through it? What did you do about it?

I think it's more of what the body craves, not the person. I have had some heated arguements with friends what are vegan and they eat that way when they are pregnant and when they are raising their children. To me, that is child abuse because there is no way a soy burger or any vegan food will ever replace what meat, chicken, pork or fish can give the body when it is in its growing stages. Same thing holds true when they are pregnant. Got a little off the track there but I think you know what I am getting at. When you are pregnant, sometimes you have to give in to those cravings because it is your body saying that it needs something.

I agree that the body is telling you you need something when it has cravings but "child abuse" that is outragous you can get vitamins from things that are not animal by-products such as I don't know maybe vitamins. Most vegans are health concious enough to be able to make sure they are getting 100% of the daily value of eveything they need esspecially when pregnant.

I must say that as a vegan I didn't crave meat either time when I was pregnant. I guess that my body had enough of the vitamins that we would traditionally get from meat so I didn't need them.
