What is the difference between a promise ring and an engagement ring? Just the price, or does the promise ring mean something different?

A promise ring symbolizes ANY PROMISE one person makes to another, while an engagement ring symbolizes a PROMISE TO MARRY.

I think a promise ring just shows a deep commitment to someone and shows that you are in a really serious relationship, and there may be a possibility of eventually getting engaged and married, but it's not definite at the moment. An engagement ring is more permanent and means you're actually making a definite commitment to get married in the near future, and probably are beginnging to actively plan the wedding.

I don't think a promise ring is a big diamond. My nephew got his girlfriend a promise ring and to them it means they are commited to each other and will do right by each other. I don't know if it means that to every one but he said that he wanted to give her something special and to let her know that she is very special to him. It doesn't mean that one day they will get married just that he loves her and wants her in his life right now. They are only 18 yrs old and both plan on going to college. I only hear of young people giving promise rings so I don't think it's the same as an engagement ring? I could be wrong

Actually a promise ring is much smaller and less expensive than an engagement ring. When you are given a promise ring it pretty much means the relationship is serious and that you are not seing noone else.It is a step before engagement. An engagement ring means you are committed and plan on getting married.

A promise ring is a promise to love you, but an engagement ring not only promises love, but also MARRIAGE.
