My darling Meg passed away this morning.

I am so sad right now, and the pain in my heart is almost unbearable. My Shar Pei, Meg, passed away around 6:00 am this morning. She was 14 1/2 years old, and was diagnosed with a failing liver and cancer last month. This morning, something woke me up at 4:30 am, and I went out to check on my precious baby since she hadn't been doing well for about a day or so. She was breathing shallowly, and was starting to get cold. I knew she wasn't going to last much longer, so I put my heating pad over her, made her as comfortable as I could--since the local vet couldn't be reached to come out to the house--and my dearest daughter and I sat with her for her last hour and 30 minutes of her long life. My hubby just buried her outside underneath my daughter's bedroom window, where Meg can watch over her each night. This is so hard to deal with. As some of you know, she and my children grew up together, so now, I feel as if I have lost a child...and it hurts so much! I want to thank those of you that posted to my discussion about Meg from last night. It turned out not to be the pain meds that took her down so fast, but the cancer. Her body was riddled with it, and as she died, we could see it. I will spare everyone the details and pain. Thank you to everyone for being here for me. I love you all, and if you don't see me on here for a bit, you now know why. Big Hugs to all.

oh hun ((((((((((((((((((((Katlady))))))))))))))))))) so sorry to hear bout Meg's passing. At least now she is in a place where she can romp around with other dogs pain-free. I bet she will be waiting for you at the gate when it's your turn to go later on. Dang it, here I go crying again. I'm too emotional sometimes. Glad you and your daughter could be with her in her last moments. She didn't go alone and scared. Grief for as long as you need to cause that's all a part of the healing process. I have Briar and Shady next to each other on the mantle above my fireplace. I have strict instructions with all my family members that they are to be buried with me when it's my time to go.

Thank you so much for the hug. And for the love and understanding. It's been a rough day for both me and my daughter. I even let her stay home from school. Meg is buried now right under my daughter's bedroom window so that she (Meg) can watch over her each night. I think that is awesome about having your babies buried with you. Thanks so much again hon.

I am so sorry to hear about this. I know how hard it is. Anyone who says pets aren't family just don't know what they are talking about. You had over 14 wonderful years with her and it is hard to lose her. Keep her in your thoughts, and know that she is still there with you, watching over you. Allow yourself to go through all the stages of grief, and know that there are many out there to support you. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry to hear about Meg and I send you and your family my warmest prayers in your time of need. I had to go through the same thing kind of last year when I had to have my baby I called her little love but she was my cat of 8 years but I had to have her put to sleep I stayed with her til the end and it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I miss her greatly. I wish you and your family the best and Meg will always be in your hearts.

but at least she is not in pain anymore so that is

I'm sorry to hear that.I can understand your sorrow.Once my family had a dog callde "dudu".She was very lovely and clever.When I came back home from my high school,she always pounce on me.However,her health suddenly broke down,and she passed away a few days later.She was only 2 years old.I was very sad, and cried many times.Fortunately, she left three babies.Thus we can take care of them, and miss her.

Hi, Sweetie! I am so sorry for your loss! I can imagine how heartbreaking that is for you. I am nursing a very sick cat, he has cancer and is starting to have more and more symptoms, so I can completely understand what it's like to have a pet with cancer. Take joy in the happy times and the love you all shared together. Pets are very very special parts of our families and you have every right to feel like you lost a child. You did! And I will feel the same way one day. (( hugs))

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.It is heartbreaking to lose a precious pet.My animals are part of my family too and I hate to see them in pain.One small consolation is that you got to be with Meg when she passed,as she would have felt your love when she left this world.RIP Meg,you are now free from pain.Hugs to you Katlady2 .

Awww Sweetie I am soooooooooo sorry. I have been out of town since Thursday and was just catching up on some posts!.
There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said here, it's so nice to see so many friends that come together to help with the grieving process.
Grieve for as long as it takes, but also know that she is not suffering, she's not sick, she's not in pain, but she is this wonderful memory that will live on forever for you and for your daughter. Those memories will be the easiest way to help you heal.
We lost our Libby last year and she was 12. SHe was the sweetest most loyal pet/friend. We miss her very much. We've since gotten a Chocolate Lab named Hersey and he's also very sweet, and just puppy cute and a lot of work!. He's a joy to us, but we still have all those wonderful memories of Libby and can now spoil and live and love with a new friend.
Love to you sweetie.... she's is so happy that she had a wonderful life and was able to be loved by such a great family.

I believe that they know exactly what your going through and there is no doubt in my mind that they miss her too. I am sure she was a leader and they very much got guidance and training from her. I have seenit many times. You come home your sick you don't feel well and they can sense it the minute you come through the door. They are more attentive, they are calmer, they lay near you... etc. They know much more about emotions than we give them credit for.

Thank you so much hon. Your kind words really mean a lot to me. You are a wonderful friend. It's getting a bit easier for me. And my two other canine children, Buddy and Snuggles, have been giving me lots of love and doggie hugs and kisses...they saw Meg being buried, and I think they knew what was going on. I think they miss her as much as I do. My cats have been following me all around the house too. So I am getting plenty of love and attention around here. Thanks again hon.

I'm soooo sorry, I have tears absolutely streaming down my face. I really feel your pain. I just lost my 12 year old Doberman whom I had had since 5 weeks old. Go and grieve sweetie and remember the good times. She will always be in your heart.

Oh dear, i'm sorry for your lose. I have lost several animals, not many have been with me as long as you had her however. I really have tough luck with animals, why when i was just a toddler I can remeber my fish always dying. Seriously, why do they die so easily?

i'm really sorry for u but especially for ur dog! in this moment only a few of people could understand u, i'm refer to people who have a pet! i know this pain! its so hard and strong but i can say u that it will pass. really slowly but this bad moment will passe

i also am so sorry to have heard that.. and it's so nice to hear of someone who cares so much about these poor creatures.. and i tell you, you don't have anything to worry about.. all that matters is that you made her life happy and full of love.. and i believe she is happy wherever she is now..

i am so sorry for your loss. last yr we lost our oldest dog he was a black lab named deacon. he was old and we knew it was close to his time but when it happened it was very hard. he got to the point he couldnt get up so we did what we could to make him comfortable. i went to check on him and he was gone. before he passed away we had found a baby kitten that was a week to couple of weeks old. it looked like he hadnt eaten at all in his little life. we started to feed him and give him lots of love. i wasnt sure if he was going to make it he was so skinny and he looked sick but i fed him and gave him lots of love now hes a very health cat. sometimes i feel that god brings things into our life for a reason. we were about to loose a dog we loved so much and this little kitten came into our life. we lost our dog that we loved so much but was able to bring life back into a kitten that wouldnt have made it if we didnt find him when we did. it will be hard for awhile i know what your going through but it will get better. my prayers are with you.

That little kitty made it to your doorstep for a reason. That is so wonderful that that happened and you could nurse him back to health, even while grieving for your baby that you just lost. You are very kind hearted, and your babies are very lucky to have you. Thank you so much for sharing that with me. And just so you both know, I not only have 2 other dogs (Buddy and Snuggles...who are missing their sister terribly), but I have 12 cats too. I am very much blessed with many furry children. That was a very sweet story. It brought a tear to my eye. I just wrote about our cat to the lady that lost Meg. Maybe it's in her stars to own a cat someday.
