i think plastic bags are major source of pollution and their disposal is a major headache, because it is too hard to recycle them.it takes 7 plastic bags to do what one paper sack will do. in india we use our own reuseable bag (fabric, cloth bag, fancy bags).i love all of them. what you guys use, i kno many of us use plastic bags because it is convinient for them.please answer guys. i am expecting few response.

I keep a canvas bag in my handbag that folds up small, and I use it instead of plastic bags.

I totally agree that plastic bags are a major source of pollution and I hate them. I try to always get paper instead of plastic but most of the grocers in my area only carry plastic. I recycle as many as possible but can't keep up with all the ones brought in to the house. Fabric bags are difficult because I usually shop twice a month. Looking out my front door to the field across the street it looks as if they are growing a strange type of plant but, wait, it isn't a plant at all, it is a hundred or more plastic bags that have blown in it during our last storm, not to mention the six that I picked off my fence. It makes you wonder where did they all come from. This is one of my pet peeves and I'm glad people are beginning to take notice.

Plastics are bad. Ever smelled burnt plastic? That sharp, pungent smell. That's enough signal to say plastics are bad. Anyway, i have a pack where i unload all my groceries in it. Due to the size of the pack, i'm not able to do my shopping at one go but at least, i'm doing one for our planet and one for myself (repeat shopping trips as exercise).

I'm against them. I don't understand why stores insist on using them as the standard. At my grocery store, you have to beg the baggers to use paper. They never ask, they just start loading it into plastic. Who wants to carry 45 plastic bags home with them when 4 or 5 paper bags would suffice? I don't think plastic bags are at all convenient. Besides, paper bags can be reused, recycled, and they have far more useful purposes than a plastic bag does.

Even though plastic bags are somewhat convenient use and throw, i am against using it because of the environment damage it cause in the future. DO you know that plastic when thrown out will at least a million years to decompose!! It will cause lots of other issues like changing the quality of soil, soil erosion, stopping ground water from flowing from one place to other, etc. So try to avoid plastic bags in any form.

They usually will pack our groceries in plastic bags unless we otherwise ask for paper. I always ask for paper bags. I use them to make book covers for my kids school books. We also live where we can burn our paper garbage, so I use the paper bags to put my paper garbage in. I don't like the plastic bags, but I do know that we can bring them back to the stores and they recycle them somehow.
