when you sit and think or just relax and listen to the sounds around you what do you hear?what are your favorite sounds? what sounds dont you like? i hear crickets chirping, tree limbs blowing, train horns going off, cars driving down the interstate in the distance, dogs barking, coyotes howling, horses naying. it is very peaceful until the trains go by. now if i shut the front door the frig is usally humming, the fan is going on high, the hamster running in her wheel, the kids snoring. kids snoring i think is the best. you can hear them and know they are ok but they are sleeping and you can relax. what about you?

I can hear the birds chirping and the wind blowing and sometime I can hear the frogs making thie noises also. We have a pond out in front of our house and there is some huge frogs in there. I can hear my air conditioning running and the refrigerator kicking off and on also. Sometimes I hear the exhaust fan in ht ebathroom running and the dishwasher running. Other times, I hear my washer and dryer running too. sometimes I hear traffic passing by and my neighbors leaving and coming back home. every now and then i can hear a dog barking too. I can hear my oscillating fan running also. My dog sometimes snores and I can also hear that. My favorite sound would have to be the birds singing. I don't like to hear the guys who are out there working in our subdivision. Their mufflers need fixed really bad and i know they are just here to drive me nuts and mud the road up again.

You have provided the perfect questions for me to get on my soapbox. You clearly appreciate hearing. And that is so great. We never know how wonderful something is until we loose it. All of the things you talk about are lost to me. While I still hear and it is corrected to a small amount with aids so much of what you say hear I have forgotten what they sound like. I have a profound hearing loss. It comes on slowly over time...it first hit me in my early 50's. But is so slow that you just don't really know what you can and what you can't hear until you are asking everyone to repeat themselves. My point is that while not everyone will have to face this you never know. So enjoy this now for it may not always be there. And it is truly one of the greatest gifts we are given.

I love to listen to the sound of the rain when I am laying in bed at night. I have no idea why that particular sound does so much to relax me, but it does. In fact, when it is raining I sleep so hard I sometimes don't hear the alarm go off. Even if there is thunder and lightning involved!
