First, let me say that I'm shocked that this discussion has been up for a month and no one, not even a Vogon or a Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal, has seen fit to reply. Second, can I please have a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster? Third, okay. I'll reply. My favorite of the five novels is, of course, the first one. The others are fine, even Mostly Harmless (my least favorite), but nothing quite compares to the first book in the, ha ha, trilogy of five. As for the BBC radio series, I only caught half of it here in National Public Radio way back in 1981. In fact, that's how I was first exposed to H2G2. I have the 1980s BBC miniseries on DVD, but refuse to see the feature film. I can't imagine Ford Prefect being played by Mos Def...takes too much imaginative effort to overwrite what I already "know" Ford looks/sounds like.

I actually read the 2nd First and Restaurant At The End Of The Universe is still my favorite. It is almost impossible to pace a funny novel that quickly. The first is great but a little more traditional in pacing. The fourth does bog down a little so it's probably my least favorite. I didn't LOVE the new movie, but I'm glad they did it to expose a new audience. The BBC TV special is my favorite, but I've never heard much of the radio show.

I am also aghast that only 1 person replied. Everyone else must be hiding behind their towels. Unfortunately, my least favorite of the 5 would be the 4th for some inexplicable reason. I think "So long and thanks for all the fish" didn't make me laugh as much as the other books did or something like that. I don't have access to the radio series (wish I did) and I haven't watched the movie. And most people would say don't bother.
