have you ever put salt in a chocolate cake??

i made a chocolate cake today and the recepie instructed to add half a teaspoon of salt... i was rather confused.. but i put it in anyway just as the recepie said... and the cake turned out to be awesome!! my brother said that salt enhances the flavour.. have you ever tried putting salt in a cake??

Yes this is very normal. It gives a special taste to the dessert. And my mother also use some sugar in some dishes and salads as it gives a special touch too them.

interesting!!! this was the first time i had put salt in a cake!! ooohhhh and how could i forget!! i put vinegar too!! lol... but it was nicee!!

no my friend, never, i hardly bake cakes as i dont get much time for all that but then too sometimes when ever i did i never experimented with such a thing.but if u say that it tastes awesome, then i think that i should also give it a try.

lol just make sure that the recepie calls for it though... ;) i ve even heard that salt is the secret behind cadbury chocolates!! :P

With chocolate, there are various spices that really bring out the flavor. A lot of people think it will change the flavor but in reality it enhances it. I believe salt is one of those "spices". Also, try using cayenne pepper, black pepper, cinnamon... all ingredients that when mixed with chocolate bring out the chocolatey flavor.

Oh yes, I put salt in a lot of my dessert baking. I have learned to use unsalted butter, though, otherwise your recipe may get too salty. I'm glad you were pleased with the results!! :)

lots of recipes call for salt it enhances flavors and sometimes helps flour raise when the recipe calls for baking powder...maybe you could share your recipe with us

Yes my teacher in cooking when I'm high school said if you bake a cake you need to add 1/2 teaspoon of salt...Yeah salt enhances the flavor...

Oh yes, most recipes call for it. A half teaspoon is really not that much and most people don't notice it. You can also omit it, but other people might not like it. I actually don't mind leaving it out, but I do notice a difference. So, go ahead and do what the recipe says unless you're cutting down on sodium.
