Got an email about Polar Bears becoming endangered...

"Global warming poses a serious threat to polar bears. Polar bears are completely dependent on Arctic sea ice to survive, but 80 percent of that ice could be gone in 20 years and all of it by 2040. Polar bears are already suffering the effects: birth rates are falling, fewer cubs are surviving, and more bears are drowning. You can make a difference! The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has proposed listing the polar bear as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. The public comment period ends April 9. If you would like to sign a petition go here http://ga3.org/campaign/polar_bears_threatened?rk=NdNuqF11KhkeE

I think it's a terrible problem. I'm sure they will get on the endangered list. I just hope we can save them. Here is link with information on what The United Nations is doing. http://www.un.org/works/environment/animalplanet/polarbear.html

Okay, I went to the url of your link and read the story. It is a very clever manipulative piece of work. It does not say the polar bear is decreasing in numbers. It says the polar bears of the Hudson Bay poplulation are decreasing. This is not the same thing. Check the stories at the urls in the comment I made earlier in the thread. Polar bears are actually increasing at some other places in the world. Also, polar bears are only "potentially threatened". They are not threatened.

So redyellowblackdog...it's a case of knowing who to believe? But most of us don't come across more than one article at a time on something like this and sometimes forget to read with a grain of salt.

You are right, esterlou, I should try to be more tactful and considerate of other's feelings. I'm working on it. Today my myLot reputation went from 21 to 22, so it must be working! :-)

Thank you Estherlou for raising this topic. I do hope polar bears will be listed as an endangered species. I was very happy to see that the USA is taking this step. I don't want to repeat myself here but I made some detailed comments to one of your respondents. Global warming should be taken seriously by all of us. Thanks again.

Since your previous post was in response to another post, I couldn't give you best response like I wanted to...the option isn't there. So, I'm going to give it to you here where the option is open. Thanks for the great info.

Here is an url with more information about polar bears. Included is information on what any ordinary person can do to help the plight of the polar bear. http://www.polarbearsinternational.org/faq/ Now, as to considering the polar bear "threatened under the Endangered Species Act" this is controversial because as even the polar bear lovers at the site above admit, polar bears are "potentially" threatened, not "threatened". Polar bears are not even close to being endangered. They are close to being "threatened". The law defines these terms "threatened" and "endangered". The polar bear does not qualify. A special exception is wanted to be created for them. I'm not argueing for or against that, just pointing it out. Polar bears are fine at the moment. They have not even reached the warning stage of "threatened" which precedes "endangered". Check out the url, it may help.

I doubt a single petition would work. Especialy if not many people know about it. I know what you mean and not only will we save ourselves if we reduce polution etc.. but we will also save the nature. Or most of it... Anyways Ill sign it u_u

Please excuse my ignorance, but how does placing the Polar Bear on the endangered species act help them to survive 'global warming' should it happen? The iceburgs will still be diminished and the arctic sea ice will still be gone. Will the scientists create synthetic ice floats? it is ironic just this day I was reading from my 1977 copy of "The encyclopedia of country living" and in it it mentions "if this cooling tendency continues as they predict" We were worried about another ice age back in the 70's.

How interesting. Things do seem to happen in cycles, don't they.

I also found same kind of reports in the newspaper about polar bears. It's unfortunate but if the situation does not improve we might end up loosing many such species like the polar bear. I don't know whether they are "endangered" or "threatened" but I think we can agree on the term "it's not a normal situation". The issue is global warming and we should find a solution to it.

The story of CHICKEN LITTLE: (paraphrased from the original story) One day Chicken Little walked outside and an acorn bonked him on the head. So Chicken Little set out to warn the world that THE SKY IS FALLING!!!! Don't we have great story tellers today? Al Gory is the best. He's got many countries saying that global warming is the absolute truth. When it's nothing but a CHICKEN LITTLE STORY. Al Gory=Chicken Little The acorn=the LIE PERPETRATED by the Liberal Left. FREEBC, REDYELLOWBLACKDOG...You obviously did as I did and studied both sides before believing this lie. The reason I know that you two studied both sides is because The Falling Sky we've heard for sometime. The propaganda was thrust upon unsuspecting followers of concern. But to come to the conclusion of MYTH we had to look at a different side. RIGHT GUYS? Linda Linda, Mari61960 listens\reads one side. When liberal-one sided-control freak meteorologists threaten to remove any meteorologist's degrees if they don't conform to the CONSENSUS ** of others then they are to be STRIPPED of their credentials then something is wrong. Science is NOT a consensus...SCIENCE IS BASED ON FACT and FACT ALONE. **(CONSENSUS: general agreement; group solidarity in sentiment and belief----Meriam Webster 2007) To the liberals who whine that the SKY IS FALLING you sound like a bunch of Bible RAPTURISTs. To the Christians in this group my intent is not to disparage you-not at all. But I'm trying to make a point. For years we have heard of THE RAPTURE. The LIBERALs (A RELIGION) now have their own RAPTURE. Stupid Liberals are the worse because they only read\listen to the vomit-spew-lies from their god (that sounds like Al Gory) and never look at the real side. Do you think this isn't for money-BIG BUCKS? LIBERALs are you willing to sell your carbon footprint for the likes of John Travolta, Al Gory and the rest of the rich (I deserve your footprint) liberals?...You'are nothing but small insignificant footprints...

You know, I'll bet you got quite a few "-" ratings for this post. It sounded like you bashed Al Gore, liberals, meteorologists, people who believe in the rapture, people with money...and said science is based on fact. Well, even the scientists can't always agree. So I guess you need to add them to your list also. So who do you think has the "real side"?

We all see things every day that make us wonder why God allowed that to happen. Things happen because people are the cause and effect and God has given us the free choice to choose to do or not to do.
