which do you prefer, keeping your star rating up or your earnings up?

just another reflection: i was trying to challenge myself to make more posts than what i usually do here in mylot. before, the most i made was 93 cents for 16 posts. so i wondered if i could possibly post enough to get $2 (plus the $8.15 i earned for 220 posts)... just to check whether i will achieve the minimum pay-out for the month of march. so i did. i actually made 50 posts and earned $2.44. i almost felt like congratulating myself over that little achievement. but i checked my star rating... it was down by 2%. now i don't know whether to be happy about my earnings or to be sad by a decrease in the % of my star rating. my star rating is still the same, however, i just felt that maybe, i wasn't able to give the quality responses i normally give to the discussions. i was a bit disappointed with myself in this area. because i felt that earnings would be secondary for me and yet... is it just me or will others feel the same if this happened to you? which is more important to you... keeping your stars up or your earnings up? :)

i would not settle for anything below a perfect, 100/100 blue 10 star. i donot care much about the earnings but i just have to have that 10 star. i can relate to your dilemma, as i have had a set back from 10 to 9 with a score down by 5 points in a single day!! that was sad and i couldnot really figure out the reason, mylot never reverted back to my query!! i guess, if we aim at that 10, our earnings gets elevated aswell, it's interdependent. don't you think, good content, quality posts, noticeable cents and commendable star rating go side by side?? dear mylesnarvaez, with immennse potential, you will be at perfect 100/100 in no time. good luck!! cheers...

I love seeing my earnings go up, but I have bounced from a 10 to a 9 back to a 10 back to a 9 now I sit at a 10. i don't know why this occured and I admit I found myself going over my responses to see if maybe I had posted something offensive or deserving of a negative rating. I try not to get discouraged, but like you, I was a bit disappointed in myself. I always try to do my best and when I see my rating drop, it's like a blow to my ego !!

You might have earned quite quickly on mylot but the reason of your ratings is simple. This is the first discussion of yours which I read & the way you have written tells the problem. Although, the amount of money added to your account is directly proportional to the posts you have added but it's not the same with ratings. Your ratings are directly related to how you discuss on mylot. As far as this discussion's concerned, I can tell you that don't tell the amount of earnings you have got on mylot whether real or fake. This's against my lot terms & accompanies its violations only. So, keep your personal assets within yourself only so that you could increase your ratings along with your posts & money so that you are happier in either ways you want to.

Yes, you're right. By mentioning how much you make or asking people how much they made may be against the guidelines. The discussion may get deleted, but not always.

Actually, it's more against the rules to inaccurately talk about Mylot's payment algorithms, not just how much you got paid. Seems like a lot of that is going around, though.

thanks for some insights. however, i'm just sharing a reflection on my experience. i have not made any mention of mylot's earnings algorithms coz i also don't have any idea also. :)

yeah, i really enjoy my time here with mylot. i like discussions and meeting new friends. the earnings was just a bonus. that's why i felt bad when my ratings decrease. it's as if i didn't give it my best shot. :) thanks!

Honestly, I say neither is more important to me. I didn't join Mylot for the money because quite frankly, I was a little apprehensive about whether I'd actually get paid or not. At the same time, I respond to discussions and start my own and don't really think about my Star Rating. Of course I'm happy to have a 10, because it's the highest rating, but if it drops somewhat then so be it. It's not the be all and end all for me. I'm more concerned about responding to discussions, having fun with my friends and learning new things every day.

i'm of the same mind. thanks! my reflection is just about being torn between having achieved one but sacrificed the other. i enjoy mylot because of the discussions and a way to express myself and learn a lot from others. however, when i put a target upon myself, i would want to achieve it. and i get a little disappointed if i don't. but whatever... :) i still enjoy it here. :)

I'd like both to be up, but even if they were both bad I'd probably still post... just more in "religion" Excuse me for being a goober, but where are you seeing this % of your stars. I'm yet to find anything about it =(

i enjoy them both. i love the money and i love my rating. so what i do is do as money post as i can but make sure my answers are well written and that if someone is asking a question do my very best to answer that question. with mylot, it is more of how you say it then what you say. read the mylot guidelines and they will tell ya. so this way you can have both. and why not have both

This is a very good question and thought provoking. And I want to tell you that I rated you positively for this. I think I'm more after keeping up my earnings because that's primarily what I'm here for. Although the star ratings also matters and if I see that my star is low I would feel bad. Although we cannot control the star rating ourselves because it depends on how the community view us but I guess we can do something. We can choose discussions that have good content.

Don't worry dear.. I gonna mark you +ve to make you a bit higher again ;) You are doing so great and I am one of those who really inspire me. You earned 2.44 $, so good. Even best. But you are right. I always try to keep some quality rather to earn money because earning the money here is a bit difficult and hard. But our earning is our reputation... I think so. But don't loose heart and keep it up. You are anyhow doing great till moment. Wish you best of luck!

Earning of money is reality and actuallity. To get rating up in posting is underserved reputatin. I prefer to earn more money than to have upgrading but the up rating of our star also affected our income. So it's better to have twice. Do you think so?

To be honest I 'd rather have my earnings up than have my ratings... But right now, I want to keep my ratings higher because I want to know what others think about my ideas and opinion. It feels good when other people rates you positively huh?

in a way, i learned some tips here in mylot how to increase your earnings and the ratings in your star. the most number of discussions i post is only 2 or 3 per day, while i give more remarks or answers to posted discussions by my friends. In my three-week stay here in myLot, the rating in my star was continuously increasing each day until i finally reached 10 (97/100). i got excited because at the same time my earnings also increased (am about to reach the minimum payout already). anyway, for me, what is important being in myLot is the chance to meet new friends around the globe and share ideas or experiences to each other.

i've seen your profile and you only keep one friend. i think you need more. the more you have friends in mylot, the more you can participate in their discussions. and vice versa. choose friends that will have same interests as you and are willing to help each other out. :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the star rating. Neither my star rating or my earnings bother me too much. I am here because I love reading and resonding to the discussions posted by my friends and I very rarely check my earnings or ratings. If we were to worry too much about our ratings I think we would probably be afraid to post anything in case we weren't rated or received a negative. Just keep posting and make the most of it. I enjoy responding to your topics.

Well. I thought you were really making a pretty good job in making money with that number of posts. But on my side, I still believe quality is much more important. Sometimes, I respond to a discussion and look at the person's star rating. That's the first thing that I look to. Next thing I look at is the discussions. Maybe you should be happy about your earnings, as of the moment. They are already there. But, you can always change things. You can always earn more even without having your star ratings decrease. I personally, had observed this. The higher my star rating became, the higher my earnings were. I came to post less discussions, but, my earnings were still increasing. I still believe that at this point, you can earn more. But in the latter part, you will notice that your earnings can decrease. For me, I would choose to have my star rating up, rather than my earnings. I can always find some ways to increase my earnings. But it would not be that easy to make my star ratings increase.

You are in a right timing. This is also the issue I am wondering right now. I am aiming for a blue star here in MyLot, but I don't know how to do it. I've been doing alot of things just to reach a high reputation rating. Could you share me some information how can I do it better? Do I have to do something special here? How did you attain your status?

it's difficult to maintain once you reached it. coz i've been on my toes since i got the 10 stars. i really don't have any idea how to keep it, coz star ratings are in the hands of other mylot users. i guess participating in quality discussions is one. choosing discussions that are started by mylot users that you know takes some time off to rate the responses they receive. people who appreciate the response that you have given. when i respond to discussions, i really focus on relevance and usefulness. i add sincerity and a part of myself. for newbies' discussions, i really try to be as helpful as possible coz i came from being a newbie too. i know how difficult the first few days were in mylot... :)

Honestly, I don't understand the star rating or how to check it. Also, I am happy to be making money but I am not really here for a rating or for money. I am here to exchange points of view, to learn things, meet people, leasrn about the world, share my opinion, see what others think and how we think. I am here purly for the forum itself. If I make money for doing it then it's a bonus!

I wasn't aware that your star rating could actually go down. I try to give quality answers to questions and I would hope that I could get a best response rating. Earnings are indeed important, but I also want to post intelligently and give answers that have some substance. Thanks for posting an interesting question.
