Scared of the dark - being scared of the dark!!
I am exactly the same and have been like this since I was a kid. My mum would have to check under my bed, close all the cupboard doors and go round the room checking everywhere before I felt safe. Then she would have to leave the door ajar so some light would come into my room. Even as an adult, when I rarely have to spend a night on my own I leave all the lights on and will not go to bed until it begins to get light. I do not know what will happen to me in the dark though, it is a total irrational fear that will not go away. When my kids were little and my partner went on tour for 9 months I had both my kids in the bedroom with me and I would pull a heavy unit across the bedroom door before I could go to sleep. Totally mad I know, but to me it was quite rational at the time!!!

Yeah, I am afraid of the dark. But when I think about it again, it is not the darkness I am afraid of. I am actually afraid of being alone in the dark. This is especially true because I am never afraid if my husband sleeps next to me in the dark. I can go to sleep without any trouble and have nice dreams to occupy my sleep. Lol. However, if I have to be alone at night, for example when I was not married yet and I had to sleep at my hostel, I was usually very afraid. I would rather keep the lights on for the whole night than being in the darkness afraid. There was one incident where it involved darkness. I went for a summer camp with my course mates while studying in one of the local universities. The name of the university is UiTM. There was one session called the owl session. We were ordered to walk in groups of ten in the middle of a forest. We are required to make a line and address ourselves only with the code number given to us. We are not allowed to address ourselves using our real names. We are told that there were an incident where a girl was actually missing in the forest but the trainer didn't know about her missing because 'somebody' else had replaced her. When asked, the 'girl' said her name and it was the same name as the girl missing. She looked identical to the girl missing. Only the next day that they realized the girl was actually missing when the 'girl' were not there the next morning during assembly. During the owl session, we had to walk first in groups with the trainer leading in front. After that, the trainer left us one by one to a certain post he had marked earlier that day. I was left under a huge tree. It was very dark, and I started to feel scared not when we were in groups but when I was left alone under the tree. I heard footsteps nearby, and I also heard two feet stamping lightly at my left and right. At that time I didn't know what to think. Maybe it was a ghost, or maybe it was just my feeling because I was very scared. Well, that's my experience about darkness. Until now, I haven't been able to overcome it. Whenever I have to sleep alone, I will never switch off the lights. I will leave it on until the next morning. Lol. Maybe it sounds funny to some people, but it is not to me. Anyway, I wish you all the best. And have a nice day to you. God bless you.

Me too, I am also afraid of the dark. I don't want to go in some places where there is no lights at all. I feel like as if there is some strange arround me. But I can sleep well even without a light, provided I am not alone in our house.

I always turn the light on when I'm sleeping alone... Its begun when i'm a lil kid. I feel like i was blind without seeing any light. But sometimes my fear comes from my imagination about ghost. Thats why, i have a small lamp for sleeping, and if theres black out, i always prepare candle. After watching horror movie are the worst.. I'm cant turn off my main lamp, so its very bright. And if I wanna get sleep, i was covering my eyes with T-shirt^^

It depends in the situation. If in my own house I’m not and I can sleep nicely in the dark. But when come to any strange and unfamiliar places surely I’m afraid to stay alone in the dark. This is most probably induced by horrible and dreadful ghost tales movies like in the hotel room alone at night or walking alone in a night street. Other than that I’m also afraid if there is any bad egg lurking in the dark.

I slept with a night light until I was 13. I could sleep in the dark at a slumber party, but by myself, I was too scared. But when I was and went to a camp to learn about teaching little kids, I just found peace I never had before. I don't know if it was being away in such a high pressure situation, but it worked. Although, to be fair, sometimes I keep my TV on at night. But just because I liked the noise.

Yes, I am very timid, I was afraid of the dark, I am not a person go on the road in the dark, I am not a person stay in a dark room, perhaps because too many have seen the ghost story, the people are feeling the dark terror.
