I am very fortunate to have a wonderful family. My brothers and sister would come to my rescue anytime I called them and I would do the same for them. Many people are not so fortunate though and it is hard for them to function as a complete and happy family. I found this little poem and it describes families so well that I thought that I would share it with you. I did not write it and do not know who did. I do try to give credit when it is due but this is one of those cases that I am unable to do that. I hope you enjoy it and that it will give you some insight into families that are not always compatable at first because even if we are very different, we all have something to contribute to the family unity. We just have to look a little harder for the good in some people but if you look hard enough, you will find good in EVERYONE. Families are like jelly beans Each one uniquely colored, Some are red, some pink, some green And some are even spotted! Each one's flavor is all its own Some tart, some sweet, some sweeter, Some get scooped up right away And some get saved for later. But although each one's different And some favored over others, Put 'em all in a basket and They all go great together! Enjoy your family for the good that they posses and love them with all your heart.

that's weird, tried posting to this discussion once and got a message to only use letters, numbers, and such.. Will try again, thought that was what I did the first time.. This is a wonderful message, did you write this poem? I would love to use it in my ladies newsletter but would like to give credit to the author if that is you or you know the author.

I am so sorry, I do not know who to give credit to for this as I posted in the discussion. We have used it at church for years when we go visiting teaching.

You are very lucky and it is good to see you appreciate them, a lot of people don't until they no longer have them, treasure them always.

That poem is really sweet! Families are real treasures. Sometimes we don't notice its value until we come into an experience of which only our families are the only ones who can stand by us. Friends may leave and be left, they may be gained and maybe lost, even husbands and wives may become ex's but families remain to be families, inspite of some misunderstandings that we go through. In times of need somebody, if not all, in the family will be ready, in one way or another to help. No matter how far from each other, there is always that time when we feel the need for each other and that is bridged by communication - maybe a phone call, a letter or an email. No matter how uncaring that family member seem, but deep in his heart, there is that care and concern that he himself cannot deny. There are so much great things that can be said about family so that this space will not be enough. What I can really say is, it is indeed a treasure that everyone should discover it's worth.

What a wonderful poem! Thanks for sharing it with us! A wonderful reminder that even though we are all different...we all have strengths and weaknesses that can work together with others to create some really neat things in life!

That was a great poem... I loved it- I too am very close with my family- Mom, dad, brother.. and my cousins and aunts/uncles.. We were brought up very close and have remained that way- Even though we are all grown up and raising our own families- we are still close. How special and lucky we are to have such wonderful loving families- Great poem!

A lovely rhyme and I wish I could share that feeling with you at the moment! My boyfriend, 2 sons and my dad and his girlfriend are ok but the rest of my family if pretty bad at the moment, my cousin ripped my boyfriend off just before Christmas and we didn't have any money for Chritmas Dinner, although Shrek is working hard to make up for 4 weeks with no income we are still struggling a bit and have had to go to court in order to try and get some cash paid. For my birthday last week not one member of my mums side of the family got in touch or sent me a card. People who rang every week now make excuses when I call and no longer call me. Obviously my cousin has spent a lot of time telling people the situation is not his fault and we are being unreasonable, even when he has admitted he has had the clients money.

You make your family sound like one big Easter Basket of joy. I do associate jelly beans with Easter. I love this. I will be passing it on to my own friends.
