Ever called a girl "baby", before? Why do some girls hate it so much they are ready to punch you in the face? They yell at you flat out "DON'T CALL ME BABY"? Why, what does it mean? and what else do you girls hate to be called and why? I called a girl that yesterday, "with good intention" and I was told off :P

Calling a girl baby means that you don'tthink she iscapable of looking after herself, and that she throws tantrums to get what she wants. As insults go, its the equivalent to a girl calling you stubby, or pencildick

When you call them baby and they throw a tantrum only reinforces the fact that they act like a child. =)

I don't know why but don't call them chicks, dames or babes either. From my experience they don't like that. LOL.

I do not like being called baby. I feel like I'm being talked down to. I'm not a baby and I'm not an airhead so treat me with respect. I hate Babe worse than Baby. Babe is a little pink pig and I am not a little pink pig thank you very much.

That's not being nice to a lady. That's being degrading. Don't call girls anything but their name until you are on close enough terms with them to give them a pet name.

Well, if you are calling her baby to pick up a date, that probably won't work. My hubby calls me baby, but we've been married for a couple years. Maybe you could try 'miss.' That is very nice to say.

Well, I wasn't trying to date her at all. We were sat joking and the subject of birthdays came up, she was way younger than I was and I "jokingly" called her "baby girl" and BOOM, I had to duck!! It was funny and we both laughed about it. And I never use pick-up lines. I think it's silly. Thank you for your response. Ma'am :)

No i don't think it is that bad.. the word baby is nice -when ur dad use it- looooooool but when a girl knows she is mature and someone call her baby... it sounds like you are a little girl that needs someone to take care of... you said the girl laughed, i assume she got your point ;)

Well hi there little Ms.Bee!! I hope it's alright calling you Ms.Bee cuz I am runing out of ideas LOL I have more to add to this discussion...I think girls in general nowadays want to make it CLEAR that they are not bimbos anymore and demand some respect. It's unfortunate that good intentions are kind of "lost" on the way too.

You DO understand that using someone's name is preferable until they give you permission to call them something else, right? Baby assume a familiarity that is unacceptable in most situations. It usually shows signs of a male's not taking women seriously...after all...a baby drools and can't communicate. It reduces the lady to the status of someone unable to make their own choices. It is condescending. Your best bet is to remove the word from your language until you get the hang of being polite. If you have to ask "why?", then you aren't ready yet.

Erased! I am familiar with her. She's a good friend. And me calling her baby came about jokingly without any "indecent" intention, But BOY was I shocked and embarrassed in the same time! Thank you for responding...Ma'am. "how's that for polite?"

Well from personal experience as a lady,I myself don't like to be called baby, to me it is someone degrading me telling me I am not mature.I know alot of guys like that word but it is in the way that it is said how it will be taken.I am not anyones baby anymore I grew out of that stage is how I exactly look at it.

I've been called baby before .. mainly from close guy friends and it's not really a big deal for me as I know it's in affection. When a guy I don't know calls me that in passing (i.e. walking down the street or something) - I just tend to ignore it because a simple 'excuse me' might have gotten my attention. I refer to my close girlfriends as baby and it's cool between us - the same way I would say 'chick' when speaking to my guy mates. It's all really each persons' own perception on how they want to take the terminology. Besides, you can call me baby anytime you want :P

calling a woman 'baby' connotes ownership of some kind or at least some hierarchy or status. my husband also call me baby. and i do the same. if the girl is not yet yours. dont call her baby. call her by her name or think of a tag that wont be demeaning or wont connote anything offensive to her.

I never addressed ANY girl by ANYTHING except by her name or "nick". The first & LAST person to ever who call me "baby" or "honey" was my X of three years & I enjoyed being called that. She was creative in calling me names. And I don't think I would allow anyone to address me by anything like that again. Anyway, back on track, I also think girls hate being called "sweety or sweetness" as well...isn't that right?
