Whit all the pet food being recalled may people are making their own. Pet food cook book are becoming the best sellers. "Real Food for Dogs" Has movedd up to the top 200 at Amazon. Dr. Donald Strombeck"s book "Home-Prepared Dog & Cat Diets: The Healthful Alternative" has jumped from 60,000 to 1000. Dr. Donald Strombeck a retired professor of veterinary nutrition at the University of California, started practicing veterinary medicine in the
1950s when people fed their pets from the table. He clames that they were just as healthy and it is safer too. The pet food industry are the ones saying people food is not good for our pets. They are looking at their bottom line. so I guess I for one will be feeding my pets from the table again.

We feed our pets (dog and cat) table scraps plus meat that we get from the butcher ...... then make up the meals ourselves ..... at least we know what they are getting rather than from a tin. Also my partner got a lot of dog food recipes from a friend (ossie here) and she also bakes some things for dog and cat from that.
It beats serving them stuff that nobody really knows what goes into them .... the pet food manufacturers puts lots of filler stuff in the cans/pouches, as it saves them on the stuff that really should be in there. I am a truck driver and have carted some stuff into a really large pet food manufacturer here in Australia but they are a large international company and know that what we are taking in is probably used around the world and not just here.

Thanks for best response here.
I cart in things like meat from all sorts of places, scraps and bones which I am told go through grinders to break it all down .... the also use carp and call it "white fish" .... flour as a filler .... chicken guts is sprayed on the dry pet food to make it more appealing to cats and dogs .... quite disgusting when you think about it really.

well yes because some dogs wont eat dog food and then you have no choice but to feed from dinner table.

Most of my friends that have dogs, dont feed them dog food that you buy in the tins or the pouches. They go to the butcher or a pets fresh meat shop. They cook up the fresh bits of bone and meat and add rice and vegies to them. It works out cheaper and its healthier than the tinned food.
