How can you tell if a friend is "active"?

I saw a discussion today about getting deleted from a friends list and one of the responses said they delete friends who are not active. Seems to be a good idea. Is there an easy way to do this without having to go through every "friend" and see if they have been participating or not? I'd like to do this, but honestly it seems awful time consuming to go through all the people on my list.

I'm not sure how to tell if a friend is really active or not. I don't really pay attention to if they start a discussion or exactly who responds to my discussions. Some members eventually respond so to me, they are still active. I won't delete any of my friends. They are all active in their own way. some of them respond to me and some start their own discussions. I still value all of my friends. I think you would have to go through each of them one by one and delete them and it is very time consuming since the pages at Mylot are very slow as it is. Some mebers may not be active now but they could be later. I am just going to leave my friends list the way it is than to waist time deleting them.

I usually go though my friends list every month or so, sometimes sooner, and I recognizes the ones I have seen often by their avatars. The one who look unfamiliar are the ones I check there profile for the last sign on day. If it has been sometime and they are not particularly good friends I delete them that way my friends list is always pretty up to date with active ones.
