I believe sleepiness in class is just normal for all students especially when the teacher is so boring.. I have once become so sleepy in my ES 84 - Numerical Methods class this February and I felt so funny about it.. I knew my teacher was just in front of the class but my mind is really set for a nap I cant concentrate on his lesson. It's a good thing he never saw me yawn or something.. You? have you ever been sleepy in class?? Or should I say have you slept inside the class??

I do sometimes feel sleepy in class, but if I can fight it i would fight it. I'd busy myself in note-taking and reciting so as not to fall asleep. I'd realized that im really sleepy when my eyes becomes glassy already because of too much yawning. But there are also times when I can't stay awake anymore. This usually happens at my last class during Tuesday and Thursday, It is a Theology class, it is so boring especiallt when someone is reporting and I can't understand a thing. I'd slip into my seat and sleep. I almost feel like im dreaming right then and there. hahaha... :))

So I guess you have developed a some sort of a 'mechanism' to stay away from drowsiness - that's very nice. At least you're trying hard not to fall asleep immediately. I very much understand the boredom that you're receiving from class reports.. Those kinds of discussions really are intangible forms of sleeping pills... LOL

lol yes! in highschool i had geometry class right after lunch. the teacher almost always worked on the overhead projector so the lights would be turned off. one time i got so sleepy that i actually fell asleep WITH MY EYES OPEN! totally true, i wasnt asleep for very long, cause my eyes were just starting to feel dry when i woke to the teacher yelling my name. and of course the rest of the class laughing. which i never did hear the end of from either the teacher or other students until the end of the year! lol its still funny and embarrassing to remember now.

as far as i remember it is only once which i really feel sleepy in my class. That was over 15 years back when i was in my high school. I was very sleepy because the night before i was doing my work for the next day presentation. I did not sleep the whole night, but i came out with the best presentation ever did by the students of my level that time. That was the great part of that. I remember that i was fallen asleep and just took about 15 minutes to sleep when the teacher is off from the class.

yeah especially if you didn't have enough sleep last night. If the classes is super early and if the professors boring.

I have been soooooo sleepy in class before that I have to excuse myself and go to the washroom just to wash my face. I feel sleepy when the professor is boring and not really when I didn't get enough sleep. As long as the professor is lively and fun then that'll keep me up. :)

Well, I assume washing your face helped you stay awake. I hope it did. Boring teachers are a common complaint in this issue - I believe the majority blamed the boring teachers. Thanks for this response!

Did you know that often when you feel sleepy in class its because the door and windows are all closed and there isn'tenough oxygen in the air in the room? perhaps next time, you could ask the teacher to open the window for a few minutes because you are finding it very hard to concentrate.

If that fact is for real, then I really must be very sleepy then. Our university classrooms are so well ventilated and it's so very open.. Outside is like a forest/savannah [I study in a university away from the city - they say the place was intentionally chosen to be like that so it's conducive for learning]... The amount of oxygen sure is not lacking...

OH yeah, I've slept in class so many times, it's a wonder why I wasn't caught. Sometimes I was SO sleepy, my eyes were so heavy and I was forcing myself to take down notes so I wouldn't be able to sleep but when the class ended and I looked at my notes, I couldn't understand a single word I wrote! LOL. I was sleep writing!

Maybe you're just so lucky that's why you weren't caught. Lucky you indeed!!! Just charge all those things to experience - at least you have tried sleep writing, I believe very few people could actually do that!!

I think most student have this experience. Honestly, I work hard in my study, but I still be sleepy in class, I could not control this . In universtity life, class sleepy might be a popular thing ~~~~ But you should not have you class bad.

I greatly agree. This thing's indeed of great popularity in university life. But we should all remember: not all that are popular is always right... Thanks for this response.

Haha. All the time. During English class, during philosophy. At times it seems that the class is going to be exciting and 10 minutes into it, you are struggling to keep your eyes open. However, I do agree that it is normal for every student to feel sleepy during class so I wouldn't worry about it.

That's a very common scenario. Biology classes about the reproduction had never become boring eversince and I could really attest because when we had our reproduction class, we had to do it closed-doors - so the other rooms wont here our cheers for all those body parts... LOL

More than half of all adolescents report feeling sleepy during the school day.A good night's sleep is a commodity that can be hard to come by as a college student. With class, work and a social life, finding time to get the proper amount of sleep can be a task in itself.Homework and exams are sometimes at the forefront of a student's stress level. Rathbun said the busy periods of midterms and finals and the dormant periods in between exams can severely disrupt a student's normal sleep patterns. Several weeks to a month before the start of school, set a limit for the latest bedtime and wake up time. Then gradually move these times earlier (about 15 minutes every other day, time permitting) as the school year starts to approach.Soak in summer's last days with early mornings rather than late nights. Emphasize activity and bright light in the morning: go outside and take a walk or play with friends, don’t sit indoors or in front of the television.

Yes i did that a lot of times when i was in school. And my teachers always tend to watch me if im falling asleep in their class. I also felt sleepy when my professor is really boring and not exciting in his teaching method. I like lively, funny and humorous professors, and he really can bring up jokes and deliver it well while teaching. In that way, im sure all of the students has this sympathy towards those teachers like that. Cheers and have a nice day ahead from Francis.

Yes, you are right . I am sophomore in a college and when we have classes, most of them are sleeping and the teachers let them alone.

sad to say but yes i do felt sleepy in this particular class but not in my entire life to ever sleep when a teacher is discussing. it is a disgraceful act. in our theology 2, our professor is saying words in a slow manner that sounds like lullaby to us. it sounds strange but i do really love to sleep on that class but control is still on my grip and good thing, i did not do such "crime" haha!

I'm very sleepy when it is Chemistry lesson or Biology lesson. it's because of the teacher who taught that lesson. their sound can hipnotize us. they speak very slowly and quietly. I think it's make us can't concetrate to the lesson because we can't hear them and didn't know what he taught to us. but I only feel sleepy.. I never slept in the class before.. and I can't.. But I'm proud (??) to my friend. he can sleep in the class. and the teacher didn't know that. but when he was asked by the teacher, he can answer it.. and his exam are good scores too.. oh I'm so jelous. huhu..

I suppose every student had experienced being lulled to sleep by the teacher during her discussion in class. I, myself wasn't spared from that spell. However, I never got to the point that I dozed off. Too bad, I would be missing out her stories...i mean, her lessons.
